Reunited and it feels so good. <3
Who: Diana and Dashiell
When: July 11th, early evening
Where: Ann Arbor AmTrak Station and other places

Dashiell got off the train when the conductor told him to. As he stepped out, the conductor gave him the strangest look, asked him one more time if he was sure before shrugging and letting the boy step out into his quote-unquote imminent doom. Dashiell, on the other hand, was blissfully unaware of any strange going-ons in Scarlet Oak or in Ann Arbor, for that matter. He was simply on his way to what he heard was a safer place.

As he stepped out, he didn't notice many things. He didn't notice he was the only one disembarking, he didn't notice the strange looks people on the train gave him, he didn't notice the conductor's scared looks and how quickly the doors closed after him. He didn't notice the chill in the air. He did notice the rain. He liked the rain. It was comforting and reminded him of mother in many ways.

Following the signs that pointed to where he would most likely be able to get a taxi, Dashiell let the rain fall on his head and clothes. He was cold, but it wasn't something he was averse to. Finally finding himself underneath a waiting shed, he rocked on his heels as he waited quietly for a taxi to come by to take him to Scarlet Oak. The fact that there were none in the immediate vicinity, the fact that there was nobody in the immediate vicinity and the fact that there was nothing at all happening were all simply lost on him.

Barnabas was not doing well. He was laid up in their hotel room babbling things that didn't make sense and occasionally he even cried. Not that Diana blamed him, not with what he'd been through the previous day with the demon, but she didn't know how to treat it. And at some point he'd gone and said something that made no sense. Something about Dashiell. Their youngest son's name. They didn't really speak about the children, three of the girls new exceptions since they actually knew where they were. Close to them. Diana still smiled at that, but not at this. After informing her husband, if he was listening, that she was going out to find him something she left, not even bothering to wrap up because it was just a storm.

The streets were empty as Diana walked, searching for one of those stores that sold medication. She couldn't for the life of her remember what they were called. Spotting a stand with someone in it she decided to ask him and ducked inside. After shaking the water out of her hair she spoke. "Excuse me, but could you tell me where I might be able to buy some medicine or find one of your doctors?" As always, her English was heavily accented by her Greek roots. But at least she'd remembered to speak in English this time.

Dashiell had been gifted with everlasting patience but, unfortunately, not the attention span to go with it. After several minutes of idly standing by, waiting for a taxi, he was distracted by Khione's arrival. His little pigeon had followed him in the rain because she had not been allowed on the train without a cage. Dashiell hadn't really had the presence of mind to pack anything. His former home had practically been torn apart by the humans and he'd just let all that go. After all, the only thing of importance in that house was Vasilis.

Vasilis.

His name hung over Dashiell like a shadow. His master, his protector, his father and, in many ways, the only person he had loved and felt love from after his abduction. Vasilis was more real to him now than anything else. Khione cooed gently at him as she shook the water off her feathers. He stroked her feathers and the little patch of red on her chest before giving her a gentle kiss on the side of the head.

Dashiell started to move away from the shed out of sheer lack of anything that would otherwise occupy his time. He tucked Khione under his jacket to keep her warm and dry as she silently berated him for not having her cage on hand but she understood her friend's lack of forethought and she loved him anyway.

Dashiell kept walking.
