"A skunk?!" Who: Remy, Renard, Mati (NPC) and Renard's new Familiar (NPC) When: Late Morning/Early Afternoon - July 10th, since we suck and forgot the holder XD Where: Wolfe household
Slowly opening her eyes, Remy was confused as to why she'd woken up in the first place and then she felt a small bat at her hand. Looking down she immediately recognized the odd looking cat in her bed, it was Mati, her Familiar which surprised her because he's made himself scarce since Renard had showed up. The kid had run away from home, to a sister he hadn't seen in years. Springing a talking cat on him didn't seem like a good idea to Remy or Mati, so he'd taken to sleeping under her bed and wandering around Scarlet Oak when he wasn't curled under her bed. "M-Mati?" she mumbled sleepily. 'They are here again! I do not like it. Stay in the house, where is your brother?' Mati paced now, his hair was raised and his body tensed, immediately she remembered the last time he looked like this. His voice just as tense and on edge as before. Shooting out of bed she raced to his room, her heart stopping when it was empty. "Teeny?!" she called into the house, running down the stairs and praying she'd find him in the living room or kitchen. Anywhere. "Renard?!"
Renard had just finished a bowl of cereal and like most of the time, hadn't been paying attention to the television or the radio. He hadn't been allowed to back home so now it just seemed weird to do much of that at all. He'd taken advantage of sleeping in that morning and the late breakfast was enough to hit the spot. At least until he finished and put his bowl away in the sink and heard the cries of his sister. She was obviously not having a good morning or something and she sounded worried. Still dressed in a pair of sleep pants and a tank top, he peered out of the kitchen. "I'm here..." he said. "What's wrong?"
Her heart raced and the second where he didn't answer made her heart sink. "Oh thank fuck!" she sighed, her tensed body relaxing when she caught sight of him. Remy clutched her chest and let the fear that had flooded her drain away. "Why aren't you in your room?" she asked, an edge of irrational annoyance in her voice. The idea of losng her brother after she'd just gotten him back wasn't something that sat well with Remy and she was only annoyed because she cared, and she hoped he knew that. At that moment Mati came slinking up behind Remy, being sure to stay out of Renard's view. 'I am here, behind you,' He said, his voice still tight. 'I will meet him today, yes? I can explain everything to him.' He made a good point, Remy would stumble through it awkwardly and Mati was much better at talking about things than she was. "Teeny, I want you meet someone. I don't know if you know about Familiars... but, this is Mati." Peaking out, Mati pawed forward. 'Hello, Renard. I am Acicmati, but like your sister, you may simple call me Mati.' His voice was gentle, but still a little tense. The demons made him bristle.
"I was eating...?" Renard said, like that was the best explanation in the world. "What's wrong?" he questioned again, still confused. Then his sister went and said she wanted him to meet someone and there was a very large someone coming up to his view and he blinked a little. "You have a familiar?" he questioned, blinking a little. "How long have you had one?" And it was so not fair because Freddie had one and Renard didn't and damn it that just wasn't fair. "I don't have one..." he almost pouted. "But that's besides the point. What's wrong? You look upset... afraid? What's going on?"
Waving her hand she shook her head, that wasn't the point. "The point is you're safe and you're not going anywhere today, you hear me?" she said sternly. Her demeanor shifted when her rather large Familiar walked up to her brother and she gave him a slightly sheepish smile. "Surprise...!" her voice quiet as she spoke. "Um, about a-as long as you've been here? Maybe a few more days?" Remy shrugged. "We didn't want to overwhelm you." Mati nodded, as much as a cat could nod and sat down in front of Renard. Remy had to hide a smile at the look he made, an almost pout that she hadn't seen in years. 'There is something here. They</i> are here again,'</i> Mati said, emphasizing 'they' in the hope that Renard would understand that he meant the demons.
Well, he wasn't allowed to go anywhere. That certainly didn't sound good to him. He still wasn't sure what the hell was talking about until he remembered the demons that had been around, even back home. It wasn't such a big deal back then because his parents had laughed it off. Demons. What did they matter? Especially when they had magic and spells on their side. "They're back?" he asked, biting his bottom lip and worrying on it for a brief moment. He wondered if Freddie was somewhere safe and he reminded himself to text her the first second he got a chance to head back to his room and get his phone. "What do we do?" he questioned, still eying his sister's familiar. "Do we hide?"
The last time they'd shown up, Remy couldn't calm Mati down until she'd promised not to leave and stay in the house until the danger had passed. It was much the same now, his voice urgent and tight, he kept getting up and walking around, then sitting down a second later. 'No! You stay right where you are and do not leave the house,' he said, suddenly standing up and pacing again. 'We do not know what kind they are and it is much safer in the house.' Coming forward she smiled at Renard and shrugged. "We can hide in the house." she mumbled, but stopped there when Mati turned his head and actually glared at her. "You know about Familiars, right?" Remy asked, unsure if he'd heard about them since he'd been living with their parents at the time. Her own Familiar was quite strange, an Ocelot that was just twice the size of a normal house cat with had a deep voice and a Spanish accent.
"Yeah..." he said, nodding a little bit. "Only because I happened upon a panther when I walked in a book store. You know how mom and dad were... they weren't exactly forthcoming with information and I didn't have time for television so I just... missed the bus until I saw that panther." Which had been a surprise he wasn't prepared for, that was for sure. "I don't have one though." he sighed. "Obviously... since it took me so long to find out about them to begin with."
"What?!" Remy said, suddenly concerned. Her baby brother was hanging around a fucking panther? That didn't sit right with her, nope, not at all. The fact that it was a Familiar only came as an after thought, but she still didn't like it. Shifting, Remy tried not to look too angry that her parents were such jerks and that Renard was here now. He didn't have to deal with them anymore, that was enough for her. For now. She smiled and then patted his back. "Doesn't mean you won't get one, baby brother."
"I hope I do." he sighed. It would certainly help him with switching from one type of magic to the other like he was in the middle of doing. "Maybe I won't because of all the bad shit I've had to do." he muttered, mostly to himself. Perhaps this was his punishment for hurting others. For doing what his parents had told him to do. He'd known that it was wrong, known that he shouldn't have done the things that he had, but he'd done them anyway. He'd have to pay for his sins, he knew. Maybe not having a familiar would be the way he had to pay. "We should lock the doors." he told his sister. "Pretend no one's home. I don't want to attract demons to the house if I can avoid it." he said. He didn't wait for an answer before he made a line towards the door, only to stop about three feet from it when he heard scratching noises coming from just outside. "R-remy." he whispered, eyes flicking back to his sister and then to the door again. "S-somethings trying to get in."
Frowning Remy couldn't think of anything to say to that, how do you convince someone that all the bad things they did, wasn't their fault? Especially when people like their parents were behind it. Renard was not a bad person and all the horrible things they'd made him do, wasn't on him. It was on them and come judgment day they'd be the ones to pay for it. Thinking about what they made him do made her skin crawl, the low little fire she hard burning for the, flaring up and she wanted nothing more then to watch them burn. Too caught up in her thoughts, Remy didn't hear him right away and then Mati made a noise in the back of his throat. "Fuck." she could feel her stomach drop, this couldn't be good. 'Hold on,' Mati said, sniffing there, his body still tensed. He made a face and backed away. 'I do not know what this is, but it is not demon.'
Okay, so it wasn't a demon, but what was it? Renard moved carefully towards the door and wrapped long fingers around the knob, cautiously turning it and pulling it open only to be startled when a little black and white skunk slipped between his feet and into the house before he could even say a single word. Turning around, shutting the door back to see what had brushed past his legs, he nearly stepped on the tiny thing.
'Hey! Watch it!' a very feminine voice came inside both his head and his sister's. 'I'm late, I know, but fashionably late at least! And here in time to help with the demons.' the skunk said. 'I'm Petunia, your familiar.'
Renard could feel his stomach sink into his shoes. "A skunk?!" he cried. "SERIOUSLY!?!"
Apparently not having a familiar wasn't his punishment. Instead he'd get one, it'd just be a skunk.
Remy trusted Mati, with her life and even her brothers, but this one time she was nervous. What if it was a demon? They would all dead, but before she could reach out and pull Renard away from the door he opened it. Stepping back involuntarily as something small and furry ran through his legs, she was nearly stunned into silence when she realized what it was. A skunk. What was more, it turned out this was her brothers Familiar. If she'd been thinking, she wouldn't have laughed but she did and she stared down incredulously at the little furry thing. 'Do not laugh, Remy,' Mati scolded, just to her. 'And close your mouth.' Glaring at him, still amused, she closed her mouth and struggled to hide her smile.
"See Teeny, I told you you'd get one! Pleasure to meet you, Petunia." Awfully funny name for a skunk, but she decided to keep that comment to herself. The fact that it was a skunk was going to raise a few problems in the future, but right now she was just glad her brother had gotten a Familiar. She would help with his magic.
Renard frowned, first at his sister, and then at the little skunk that still sat there looking up at him like a cat that had been spray painted. It wasn't fair. Not at all. A skunk? Of all the things in the universe he could have gotten and he got a skunk. Freddie was going to laugh her head off at him. "Did you really have to be a skunk?" Renard sighed.
'Well excuse me. I couldn't exactly choose what I wanted to be no more than you could have chosen to be a Sasquatch.' Petunia muttered. You act like a skunk is the most awful thing in the world. I could have been an elephant. How would you have liked that. Don't be so ungrateful.'
He felt a little bad now that she'd called him ungrateful. He supposed he should be happy that he had a familiar now, but it was hard to be happy when it was a skunk.
"Sorry." he sighed.
'It's fine.' Petunia told him, then turned to the greeting that came from the woman. 'You too.' she told her. At least she was inside now. 'You will not believe the walk that I had all the way here.' she sighed. 'I've been looking for you for days now.'
It was a little funny, more then a little but Mati was right, laughing wasn't very nice. Not to Teeny or Petunia, who seemed like a sweet little thing... even if she was a skunk. "Teeny!" she said, like he'd slapped her. Remy shot him a look and refrained from smacking him upside the head for that comment. Poor little Petunia. Sure, a skunk wasn't an ideal choice for a Familiar but she was here to help and protect him. "I'm sorry about him, Petunia. He's a teenager, what can you do, right?" She laughed, obviously teasing and trying to get under his skin. Mati stepped forward and sat by Remy's feet. 'Hello, I am Mati. Remy's Familiar, it is good to see the young boy get his own Familiar.'He said in his usual formal and thick Spanish accent.
"Mati had quite the journey himself, he showed up with a limp. I'm glad to see you're in one peice though." Remy added with a smile.
'Teenagers.' Petunia agreed. 'You know, I could have said the same thing about you. Why do you have to be a teenager?' she teased.
Renard just sighed and rolled his eyes. "I thought we were going to hide somewhere." he said to his sister, not wanting to talk about familiars anymore. Now that he had one, he wasn't sure what to do with her. He just wanted to be safe from the demons. That was far more important than anything else right now.
'Hello, Mati.' Petunia said to Remy's familiar. Turning to Renard when he spoke, she let out a breathy laugh. 'Where are you going to hide?' she asked. 'The demon would see you. You're too tall to be unnoticed.'
Renard glared at the little animal and sighed, latching the door like he'd intended. "I don't think I like familiars anymore." he muttered as he made his way to the kitchen to latch the windows. Petunia followed after him snickering a little. 'Wimp.'
She may have been a skunk but Remy liked Petunia and Renard shouldn't have been acting like such a petulant little child. At least he'd gotten a Familiar. She laughed but stopped at the look on Renard's face. "Oh settle down, Teeny. It'll be easier for you to switch with Petunia around." Mati nodded his head again and stood up, curling around Remy's legs before padding over to the kitchen and perching himself on a stool. Remy followed her little brother, she laughed again, she was really beginning to like Petunia and besides, the little skunk didn't smell that bad.
"Hey, enough of that now." Remy said a little more sternly as she helped him lock all the windows. "We'll wake up Auntie and work a spell, staying inside is the best bet."
'He's not bothering me.' Petunia practically sang. 'But if he keeps it up, I'm going to spray him and then he will be bothering everyone' she laughed.
Renard didn't find it very funny, but he didn't say anything and merely heaved a sigh. "Inside." he agreed. He certainly wasn't about to head outside for any reason. He did want to check on Freddie though. He'd have to text her. He knew for a fact that Remy - or their aunt for that matter - wasn't going to let him out for anything.
"No, but he is being extremely rude." She sent him a look that said if he didn't cut it out soon, he'd be facing her wrath. It took a lot to not laugh too much, she knew Renard would get mad at her and she was trying to get him back. Remy still felt as if she owed him. "You can help us, Teeny. It'll be good for you to get some experience in white magic." Remy said as she went to check the back door, whispering a small spell that would probably only last an hour or so. 'Yes, inside. It is too dangerous to go outside right now.' Mati was still tense, every muscle ready to pounce and attack.
Shuffling over to him, Remy stroked his fur. "Calm down, Mati." she whispered. "We're all safe." Making her way over to the front door she whispered the same spell. "Come on Teeny, lets go wake up Auntie."
"I wasn't trying to be rude..." Renard sighed. "I just wasn't expecting a skunk. I wasn't expecting anything honestly. It's just... surprising. Do I look like my familiar would be a skunk? I mean... I don't know. It's weird." he muttered. More than weird but there wasn't even a word to describe the situation. "I wanna try the spell though..." he nodded. It was nice to be included in something because he actually wanted to be, not because he was forced to repeat the steps day in and day out. When she said it was time to wake their aunt up, he nodded a little. "Now... if I can just figure out the best way to say 'hey, there's demons outside' without it coming out quite so bad."
