Always up or down, never down and out
Who: Harley Villetta and Jackson Lowell
When: Lunchtime
Where: Lenore's Bookstore and Cafe
Harley had no idea how he made it to work on time Sunday morning. He was a little later than usual leaving Bren's that morning, and he still had to run back to his place for a quick change of clothes. His father didn't say a word to him, probably thinking he'd been out all night partying. For once in his life, that wasn't actually the case - helping out a friend took priority.
Not that Bubba Villetta cared to know that much about his son's life, but that was besides the point.
Without the hangover that usually accompanied his Sunday mornings, Harley was even more cheerful than normal, bouncing back and forth from one side of Lenore's to another as he restocked the shelves. He stopped to help whoever he could, including old ladies looking for the romance section - "Fascinating reads, those," he told one, "filled with stuff us men should keep in mind sometimes, right?" Yeah, that was Harley for you. By the time his lunch rolled around, most of the people he worked with were probably glad to have the bouncy riflebird out of their hair for a while. Harley was more or less oblivious to that; he was just having a good day.
Grabbing a quick snack and an iced coffee from the cafe, Harley spotted Jackson coming towards him. His friend had been out of it the last few days, at least from what he'd seen at work, and Harley hadn't figured out why yet. That would change. "Hey, Vivi!" he called, knowing Jackson would get the Final Fantasy IX reference. "Are you on break, too?"
