cutest balls of fluff EVER! Who: Adara and Calista Where: Humane Society When: Afternoon
Calista was getting anxious about two things that were coming up in her life, the first one being the battle of the bands at the Mudhouse. She had plans to practice with her band later that night. It was only one song, after all, so no need to spend hours upon hours on it, though Calista was giddy each time they sang, only because she thought of Quentin each time she sang it. Hopefully he would like the song and hopefully when she was up on stage she would come to life and give the song enough justice.
Though that wasn't until tomorrow. Until then, Calista was giddy about something else - picking out a kitten with Adara. This was definitely something to get giddy over. Calista hadn't had a pet in forever, and never had a kitty before. Hopefully she and Adara could be perfect kitten mommies. Once they were at the humane society, Calista had already shuffled on inside and pressed herself up against one of the windows to eye the various kittens. "Awwwww, look at them. They're so cute," Calista smiled a bit more than usual as she eyed them, adjust her bag over her shoulder in the process. How were they ever going to settle on just one?! At this rate they were bound to bring home at least ten. Hmm, maybe they could compromise with two, but it was so hard to just pick one!
Since it was a Friday before a national holiday, which meant Adara had the day off, she was taking full advantage of that and dressing up, even though she so didn't have to for a trip to the humane society. But she wore boring pantsuits during the week so when it came to going out at night or anytime on the weekend, Adara wanted to feel pretty. With that in mind, she dressed for the day, totally psyched over the prospect of getting a kitten or twenty.
She was glad Calista was as excited as she was and they had fun giggling over it on the drive to the Humane Society. Once she approached the entrance of the building, she pushed her sunglasses up to rest on the top of her head while she pried Calista off the window and inside the building. Once inside, they immediately went to the kitten cages and Adara felt her heart tug at how cute and cuddly they all were. "How are we ever going to choose?" she asked Calista, her eyes wide with all the choices in front of her.
How was Calista suppose to know how to pick one out? They were all adorable fluff balls! Awesome, now there were two indecisive girls in a humane society. They were screwed. "Maybe one of them will choose us...?" That was wishful thinking, especially when half of the kittens were mewing at them for attention. Pouting slightly, Calista wasn't sure which one to give her attention to first. "There's only one of me and millions of them," she murmured to herself. Eventually, she went to the kitten that was right on her eye level and wiggled her fingers at the orange kitty. The adorable kitty mewed in response to her and nuzzled into her hand, purring up a storm. "Ooo, he's like a vibrator," was Calista's initial response, completely unfazed that she said that outloud.
Adara was walking and looking at the cages behind Calista and was hoping that one would choose her, but highly doubted that to be the case. Her hand trailed over the fronts of the cages, slightly curling around the bars as she moved down the aisle. And Calista was right...how were they going to choose just one or two? It was near impossible with all the cuteness surrounding them. At Calista's comment, Adara snorted, then giggled. The girl could say the damnedest things sometimes.
As she giggled, a calico kitten batted at Adara's hand. Adara turned her head to look down at her and completely melted. "Oh, you're so cute!" She stuck her finger between the bars and the kitty immediately nudged her head against it and started purring as well. "Oh look at this one, Calista!" There was something about the shape of the kitten's eyes and face that made her look so so sad. Adara wanted to immediately scoop her up and take her home.
Calista was caught up playing with the little orange ball of fluff before her, who was having fun batting at her fingers. He was so much fun! And so fluffy and purry... if that was even a word. At first Calista didn't notice Adara was talking to her. Eventually she turned to say something to Adara, then noticed she was playing with an equally adorable kitten. "Awww." They were both cute! Calista flickered her eyes back and forth between the two kittens, torn between such a massive decision. "But... but.... this one...!" Calista pointed at her orange kitty, who was still nuzzling into her hand, rolling over onto his back in the process.
Adara tore herself away from her own cute kitten and looked at Calista's. "Awww, how cute!" She looked back at the little ball of fluff that was still purring against her finger. She couldn't even fathom parting with this cuteness. "See, I knew this would happen. We have to get them both," Adara decided.
She turned to see a worker down the aisle and motioned him over. Giving him a bright smile, she motioned to the two kittens. "Could we please hold these two?" He nodded and opening Calista's kitten's cage first, he reached in and handed her the kitten. Then he did the same with Adara's. Once she got the little fluff ball in her arms, Adara cuddled her to her chest and grinned. "Oh, she's so adorable!"
Of course this was going to happen. There was no getting around the fact Calista was horrible with making decisions, and the fact they were dealing with two, precious balls of joy made it that much harder. Calista gave a small smile as the kitten curled up in her arms, mewing away while placing his paws onto her chest to nuzzle into her neck. "Awww, I want to take him home." Calista wiggled her fingers at her kitty, watching his eyes dart around before batting at her fingers. So precious. Then she looked on over to Adara's kitten and Calista couldn't help but love that one as well. "Awww, I want to take them both home." She pouted lightly, holding the kitten in one hand while stretching out to pet Adara's. Why did this have to be so complicated?
When presented with deciding between two adorable tiny kittens, Adara was equally as awful at making a decision. She turned to Calista and her cute kitty and smiled, excited at the idea of getting both. "Then we will take them both home. That good with you?" Adara's kitten butted her head into Adara's chin. Cooing, Adara lifted the kitten up to her face and nuzzled her nose into her soft fur.
"Okay, I think it's decided - we need both of them," she told the attendant. "Show us the paperwork and we'll sign whatever we need to in order to take them home."
The attendant nodded and brought them over to a desk while he got two sets of paperwork ready to be signed. While they waited, Adara studied her kitten. "You need a name," she told her. Looking over to Calista, she asked, "Do you have an idea for your kitten's name?"
They could get both?! Perfect! Calista liked this option a lot more than having to decide. Following Adara on over to the desk, too occupied with her kitten to even notice the paperwork. "A name?" She blinked, looking on down to the kitty. "I don't know. He needs a good name. His fur reminds me of a gingersnap cookie. Yes you do! You're a little gingersnap cookie!" Calista rambled off into little coos while nuzzling her face into the kitten, who in turn meowed and nuzzled into her face. Such a loving ball of fluff. "What about you? Do you have a name for yours? She could be a sugar cookie."
Adara had thought a lot about names before coming to the Humane Society. Now that she was actually holding her kitten, one name jumped out at her. "Ember." As soon as the word left her lips, the tiny kitten she was holding mewed and climbed up Adara's shirt to sit on her shoulder, purring loudly into her ear. Adara took that as a sign of acceptance - that the kitten liked her new name. "And Gingersnap is such a cute name for you, yes it is," Adara cooed as she scratched Calista's kitten's belly.
Finally the paperwork was ready to be signed and Ember was a good kitty, staying on Adara's shoulder while she signed the necessary paperwork. Once everything was done, the kittens were officially theirs. Adara couldn't wait to get Ember home and show her around the house, especially to her room, where she hoped the kitten would spend the nights curled up on the bed with her.
Ember seemed like the perfect name for Adara's kitten, seeing she was a fire elemental and all. And from the sound of it, Gingersnap was the perfect name for Calista's kitten, especially with the fact she enjoyed baking. They couldn't ask for anything better! "Gingersnap it is," Calista nodded while placing the new kitten down to finally fill out her portion of the paperwork. With that done, she scooped the kitten back into her arms and nuzzled him. Now all they needed was to pick up some toys and other needed items and then they were good to go. "Do you think Jace will like them? Or Quinn, even?" She had almost forgotten about the new addition to their house. Honestly though, she didn't care what Jace thought. Her and Adara agreed way ahead of time on getting kittens, so tough luck on his part. Besides, who could say no to a cute face?
Adara grinned, Gingersnap was perfect! Tugging Ember off her shoulder, Adara shrugged as she stood up. "I don't really care if he does or not. We had talked about this long before he came in. I'm more worried about them leaving Quinn alone. But, hopefully they'll learn or he'll learn to hide when they're around." As much as Adara liked Quinn, she was glad she now had her own cute fluffy pet to play with and cuddle.
Nuzzling Ember, she asked Calista, "Ready to go shopping? We have so much stuff to get!" She grabbed her copies of the paperwork that she signed and stuff them in her purse before heading to the door. She was already imagining a red collar for Ember...it was fitting.
"Maybe they can be friends or something?" Whether or not a bunny and kitten got along was beyond Calista, but she couldn't see why not. They were all fluffy and cute and fun to pet. That was grounds to get along, right? Seemed right in Calista's mind. Holding onto Gingersnap close to her, she followed Adara on out with a small smile on her face. "We do! I can't wait!" Getting a kitten was a nice change of pace in her life right then. Sure, she was anxious about the battle of the bands performance the next night, but Gingersnap and Ember would make everything better.
