Tobias sat back in his seat, wiping his mouth with his napkin. He enjoyed being able to spend time with friends, reminding him that there were still people out there who did care about whether or not he took off on another search for Athena. Like going out with Mark the other night - okay, so that had been more than a little random, but it was something different, something to keep him from being at home all night, using his powers to see where Athena was.
That was one bonus of Tobias' gift - it was one that was easily hidden. In his family, that wasn't always the case. His sisters had been dealt the worst of it, one being telepathic, the other a clairsentient. He'd seen what they'd gone through growing up, the voices, the visions. So, when there were rumors floating around that his friend Nicolas could read minds, Tobias had no idea if it was true or not. And honestly? Nicolas was still a friend of his, and it didn't really matter either way. If he could deal with Selena knowing everything he thought, he could deal with someone else knowing, too.
At least Nicolas hadn't mentioned Athena. Tobias was thankful for that.
He paused before answering, finishing another bite of his sandwich. There was also a cup of soup in front of him as well, southwest corn chowder. Over the years, Tobias had become quite the expert at what places served what for food. "It's amazing what students think they can get away with," he agreed. "I can always tell when a student's fed their essay through Babelfish or some other online translator. I'd rather grade an honest effort with several mistakes than one that looks perfect, but the grammar's all over the place."
