Night at the Museum Who: Raz Where:UofM Exhibit Museum of Natural History When: 8 pm
Raz had taken Paige's advice to some degree when he headed to the museum. There was no way he wasn't going to go when it was closed. The idea appealed to him way too much to not jump on that boat, but it was a smart idea to head in while the doors were open. After doing a brief walk through he wondered why he had come after all. It was just like any ole boring museum, after all.
Still, Raz wanted to see what it was like when everyone left and some peace and quiet was nice. It seemed that no matter what he did he was never really alone anymore. Even if his sister was sleeping he could hear her breathe. While it was nice to know she was still alive in her bed, she was still there and damn it, even a ghost wanted some peace and quiet now and again.
Ultimately, Raz was able to tour the first and second floor of the museum before it closed for the night. He found a bench in front of a dinosaur, a T-Rex he read on the plaque in front of the huge skeleton, and settled down there for the museum to close. He stared up at the massive creature and marvelled at it. As much as museums were generally boring the little kid smothered deep down in him thought dinosaurs were fucking rad.
It wasn't long before announcements went over the building intercom informing visitors of the museum's closing. Not long after that the doors were closed, locked and the lights were off. As he assumed there were still some lights on in the building. There weren't a lot but there were more than enough for him to get around and check things out. Raz's first observation as he started wandering the museum was that it wasn't really that much cooler than when it was open. It was always a rude akwakening to find that things just weren't that exciting as a ghost. There was no thrill of being caught after all. No one saw him before. Nothing changed.
He let out a dejected sigh but decided to complete his tour of the museum. Raz found himself in the Anthropology display on the fourth floor of the building. Most of it was typical stuff about different cultures world wide: clothes, jewelry and hand made pots. However, when Raz rounded a corner he saw a collection of weapons. None of them looked really deadly, per se, just very old. He had to sort of squint to see in to the display as the lights were so dim but one knife with a particularly decorated hilt caught his attention.
Without thinking about, Raz reached forward. Though he knew his hand would go through things Raz still found himself grabbing for them. It was like he forgot from time to time that he couldn't touch things anymore. Later Raz would wonder why it happened this way. He would wonder if he suddenly got better at focusing his attention or if it was simply because he was excited to see something neat like the dagger, but when he reached out to grab it his hand stopped at the glass. Raz blinked in surprise. He reached his hand out again and it stopped at the glass.
Excitement roiled through him and he moved to put his hand at the glass again but it went right through. Right about that time an alarm went off throughout the building. "What the fuck?" Raz said in surprise and looked around as if he'd been caught. He saw no one but decided now was probably a could time to leave. He headed for the nearest staircase and was down between the 3rd and 4th floor when two security guards were headed up the stairs. Before Raz could move they ran right through him. Yup, he was definitely still a ghost. Curious, he turned to follow them.
The guards followed the path that Raz had taken and settled in front of the display. The lights had been turned back on and one of them examined the case carefully while the other looked around.
"I swear I saw someone." The guard looking around the room said. "I saw some punk kid touching the glass."
The second guard grumbled and stood up from his bent over examination of the glass. "I didn't see shit but since you set off the damn alarm now we have to deal with this." He grumbled again, something about getting in trouble for not watching more carefully. "There are smudge marks on the glass but they could be from someone earlier in the day. Cleaning crew hasn't been in yet." His voice was a mix of grudging acceptance of the possibility of someone being in and caution that said they have to at least act as if something had happened, just in case. Though it was obvious he didn't really think someone had been there.
A third guard beeped up through the walkie-talkies at the guards' belts. "Don't see a soul down here guys. You sure you saw someone, Steve?" The voice sounded about as skeptical as the second guard.
Steven pulled his walkie-talkie out of his belt voilently. "Yes, damn it. Have I seen random people before?"
"No... I guess not." The voice responded, his tone still unconvinced.
The two guards looked at each other and the second guard shrugged. "Don't worry Steve. The police will come take a look and if it's nothing then at least we're showing we're doing our job, right?" He gave a weak smile. No one really wanted a false alarm called even if it was doing their job. "I don't have anything fancy like that fingerprint powder but there were a lot of fingerprints on that glass. If there was someone up here they probably wouldn't catch 'im anyway."
Steve grimaced. "Yeah, you're probably right. Damn it. It was the weirdest thing. One moment there was someone there and the next there wasn't. A brunette kid. It was dark but it looked like he wasn't wearing a shirt." he shook his head. "Damn, I hope I'm not losing my fucking mind." The second guard only patted Steve on the back and they headed back down the stairs to meet the police.
The whole situation freaked Raz out and he bolted. He ran down the stairs, through the guards and out one of the doors at the main entrance where the police were coming in. He paused for a moment to look back at the building before shaking his head and taking off. Maybe this wasn't such a hot idea after all.
