No time to think of consequences Who: Roxy and her mom, Linda (NPC) Where: The Diaz household When: Night time
Roxy had rolled into the driveway relatively late at night. Was quite the jam-packed day, filled with work, meeting up with Alanna, then picking up Charlene for some fun times. There was still a smile on her face as she slipped into the house, flicking the lights on as she headed straight to the kitchen. Sifting through the cabinets, Roxy pulled out a bag of tortilla chips and then searched for some salsa in the fridge. She was actually surprised her abuelos didn't toss it out and give her a lecture on what a real tortilla chip was, but oh well. Was way easier and faster to pop open a bag then make the stuff from scratch.
"Roxy! You're home late." It was her mother. Now the real question was what the hell was she doing up so late?
"Oh hey, mom! Sorry, it's been like, a really busy day."
"Busy couple of past days. I haven't seen you at all!"
The hell you want me to do about it? You know I work odd shifts all the time. Finally grabbing the jar of salsa, Roxy popped it off and dug into her evening treat. "Well, I'm here now." She dipped a chip into the salsa and proceeded to munch away, leaning against the counter top as she looked at her mother. Something was off and she couldn't put her finger on it. Linda had that look on her face that wasn't entirely welcoming. Oh, she was smiling alright, but it was one of those disgusted smiles that mothers gave to their daughters when they knew something was up... and they weren't happy about it. "....what?"
"A friend of your stopped by earlier."
"Was if Fi?" Roxy perked up, rather concerned, knowing that the fire elemental wasn't in the best shape in the world. If she had stopped by earlier, then Roxy hoped everything was ok. But wait, why would Fina come to her house and not call or text? Why would-
"No no, dear. Your old high school friend, Kayla." Roxy froze, chip halfway to her open mouth. All she could do was blink. Oh my god... "Or should I say... girlfriend?" Now said chip was on the floor.
Roxy couldn't believe it.... well, ok, she could, seeing that it was Bitchface McGee pulling the whole stunt, but she never figured that the bitch would go through with it. Blinking her eyes, Roxy stood there completely flabbergasted and offended. "...what!? The hell did she come here and say?!"
"More like showed. She had some pictures from when you two were in high school together. Rather... intimate, I guess. I doubt they were Photoshop'd are whatever you kids use these days, but I guess this now explains why you two stopped being friends?"
"Mom, it's not like that-"
"Then what is it like, Roxanna? Was it just some sort of phase? Kayla sure didn't make it seem like that. She even came to inform me that whoever you're with now is dangerous. Is that true? Is she dangerous?"
It was like all her nightmares and then some were coming to life. Roxy was scared shitless with what her mom could potential do if she unveiled the fact her oldest daughter was a lesbian. Oh god, Roxy didn't even want to think about it. Even though she wavered slightly, she was able to recompose herself. Roxy prided herself in being able to let most comments roll off of her back. Standing her ground, she looked at her mom with a fierce stare and shot back at her, "I'm not with a girl, mom."
"Is that so?" Linda didn't look convinced one bit. "Then you're with a guy after all and the pictures were just a bunch of lies?"
"Yes!" Wait.... what did I just agree to?
"Oh really? So who are you dating?"
....oh fuck me EVERYWHERE.
Roxy stood there for a second, trying her best not to look like a deer in headlights. Holy crap, what was she going to say?! She didn't really hang out with many guys in the area and she couldn't even remotely picture herself dating any of them. Blech! Though she had to say something to appease her mother and escape her wrath. After a brief moment, Roxy parted her lips and said the first name that came to mind.
"Quentin!"
"...Quentin?"
"Oh yeah! He's this painter dude I met several weeks ago!" Just grin, act happy as fuck, and suck it up.... GOD!
"...why haven't I met him yet?"
"Oh my god, mom, seriously? After what you and my tias did the other week over the rock? You really think I was going to bring him home?"
"Well, I guess that's acceptable... but I don't want you being around anyone dangerous."
"Mom, he wouldn't hurt anyone."
"Then why did Kayla say he was dangerous? Hmmm?"
Roxy paused again, shrugged her shoulders and shook her head. "Uh... he has a bunch of tattoos...?" Real smooth, Rox...
"Ugh, he does?! Your tias and abuelos are going to have a field day with that one. Do you have any pictures of him? Facebook? Something?"
Holy crap, does she ever. SHUT. UP!?
"He has a website for his art, I think his picture is on it if you want to check it out." Roxy whipped out her cellphone to check up on a text he had sent her earlier about his website and scribbled the URL onto a napkin for her mom. "Here, go and stalk him or whatever you paranoid mothers do."
"I'm just looking out for you, sweetheart!" Linda gave her daughter a concerned look while taking the napkin in hand. "I know you two don't really talk anymore, but Kayla seemed really- HEY! Don't roll your eyes at me!"
"Kayla is a deceitful, vindictive bitch who just wants to ruin my life, mom. I didn't whack her in the face with a field hockey at prom by accident, you know."
Sighing, Linda shook her head and began to back on out of the kitchen. "Just thought I'd see what was up. Glad it wasn't what I thought it was. I'll be wanting to see this boyfriend of yours at the party next week! You're inviting him, right?"
"Oh of course! Why not!"
Once her mom left the kitchen, Roxy slumped on down to the floor and rested her face in her palms. "Fucking christ, the hell am I going to do now?" She had to tell Quentin what the hell was going on and see if he could play along but then there was Charlene. What was she going to say to her? Was there anything to say? Maybe it was better to just stay clear of the radar and do her best to preserve her relationship with the mermaid. She didn't want to lose her, especially over some bitch move her ex pulled. I'm sorry, Lene... I hope you'll understand.
