Movie Tiems!
Who: Jess and Tayne
When: A little after six
Where: Movies!
After Madock dropped Jessalyn off, she took a quick shower and changed into dry clothes before she took her mom's car out to meet Tayne as it neared the end of his shift. She'd had a lot of fun that day at Charlie's, and she was already looking forward to calling Madock when she got home later that night. It sounded like it was going to be a very busy weekend, but she was looking forward to it! Not only because she would get to spend time with Madock, but she would get to be surrounded by a bunch of kids from school, and like she told Day, that was always an extremely interesting time.
Tayne was just clocking out when Jessalyn drove up, and hanging up his work apron as she came in. It'd been an easy day, Thursdays often were, and there were plenty of people to help with closing, so he could slip out pretty much unnoticed if he wanted to. As Jessalyn walked in, he spotted her and waved, grinning. "Hey, just one sec, gotta tell the boss I'm off."
"Sure, no problem!" She smiled and decided to wait by the door as he disappeared. The diner didn't seem that busy, which was nice, though she found she loved the smell of the place. If he didn't hurry, she would probably end up ordering fries or something, despite their plans to leave. Her stomach rumbled quietly and she decided that maybe popcorn would be the way to go.
Since the diner was closing about now, she'd have trouble getting those fries, anyway. Tayne ran back quickly to let the manager on duty know he was heading out, then jogged back out to the front of the diner and Jess. He grinned at her. "Okay, here I am. You ready to go? Got a movie all picked out, or is that my job tonight?" They'd wind up seeing a superhero movie or something, if he picked.
She smiled when he returned and pushed open the door to lead him out. "I'm totally ready! I'm also willing to watch any movie you want, as long as it's not too scary or bloody." She was not a fan of horror films whatsoever. "How was work today?"
Well... he'd wanted to see Wolverine. That was still out, right? That wasn't scary, and he thought the bloodiness would be relatively low. it was PG rating, or something. He grabbed his jacket from the rack just inside the door, not that he'd need it in this heat, and led the way out. "Work was good. Pretty low-key today, actually, except for a few kids coming 'round around one. How was school? Was your last day for the summer today, right?" He held the diner door for her.
"Yup! My last day... for the summer. It was pretty non-eventful, but I went to a pool party afterward with my boyfriend, so that was a lot of fun! Everyone is much more talkative once the school year ends." She headed outside, motioning toward her car. "Do you want me to drive?"
"Isn't the guy supposed to drive?" Tayne asked, elbowing her lightly and grinning. "But you can if you want, sure. So wait, you have a boyfriend? How did this happen in all of, what, two days?" Hadn't he talked to her just Tuesday? She'd said nothing about a boyfriend then!
"Oh! Is the guy supposed to drive?" Jessalyn asked with a moment of doubt flickering across her face. She never really knew, and since they were friends, she doubted it was a major issue. "I mean... if you want to drive you can! But I don't mind." She grinned and shrugged. "I was walking home after visiting you the other day, and he picked me up to give me a ride home and then got my number, and it sort of went from there... and we talked about it this morning... being official and everything?" She was beaming by this point. "I've never had a boyfriend before."
"I'm teasing," Tayne laughed at her, and went to her car instead of his, to prove it. He listened to her ramble as he waited for her to unlock it, amused and a little wistful. I've never had a boyfriend, either. Which sounds really goddamn pathetic, when I think it. Shut up, brain. "So who is he? Do I know him, what's he like if I don't, and is he gonna treat you right or do I gotta threaten him for you?" He could be just as big-brother protective as, well, Jessalyn's brother. If not more, since he was protective by nature and Ransom was more laid-back.
"Oh!" He was teasing. Right. Jessalyn giggled and unlocked her doors so that he could get inside. "He's... his name is Madock Korey? He played football, and he's graduating tomorrow. He's super nice. I like him a lot. And I don't think you'll need to threaten," Jess said with a grin. "He treats me very well. I don't think Madock could be mean to me even if he wanted to be."
Dropping into the passenger seat, Tayne said with playful skepticism, "If you're sure. I'm always on hand, if he decides to be a jerk or anything." He reached to buckle himself in; despite throwing himself into the path of danger, he was still safe when he wasn't doing so. "I mean, boys do tend to do that sometimes. As I believe you told me last time we hung out." She made him an except "most of the time", or something like that.
"If he decides to be a jerk, I think I can deal with that myself," Jessalyn said confidently. "But if not, I'll definitely put you on my list of boys to tell." She started the car and pulled out of her spot to head toward the theater. "And yes, I know boys do... I guess there are more exceptions to the rule than you," she added with a grin and a wink in his direction. "So if I can find a boyfriend in two days, have you found a girlfriend yet?"
"Oh, god, no," Tayne laughed. "I wasn't even looking. I had shit to do, and all that. You know, work? I mean, I met some people, but definitely not a girlfriend." Though he expected Vivienne was thinking along those lines, which made him worry, and for all he knew, Jane thought he just wanted in her pants, too, which actually made him want to laugh. After being moderately drunk in her presence for over and hour, he hadn't hit on her once. What did that say to her? "Sorry, no juicy gossip from me," he finished with a grin.
"Sometimes when you're not looking is when you find it," Jess pointed out. That was the case with her at least. She sighed with a smile before reaching over to pat his arm. "Okay, no juicy gossip, I think I can handle that for today. You should go out and have some fun and stuff, other than work. It's summer now, after all."
"And what do you think this is?" Tayne asked with a grin. "A chore?" He prodded her arm gently, right back. "Summer ain't really the same for someone who's not in school anymore, but I'll do my best to have fun and stuff. After the movie I'm supposed to go hear a friend play piano, too, so today I get a double dose of fun." Though he was admittedly a little uncomfortable about the fancy nature of the gig Johan was playing, he was still glad he'd finally get to hear his friend play.
"Oh! Well, I'm not always the most exciting person, contrary to popular belief," she joked. "But yeah, I guess you're right.. once you're out of school, you don't really have a summer vacation anymore, right?" She looked over at him with a grin. "I love the piano. I can't play! But I like listening to it. Does your friend play in a club or something?"
"He plays all sorts of places," Tayne said. "Clubs, weddings, churches, fancy restaurants... whatever he can get, really. Today is fancy restaurant day, I think. Or at least fancy bar." He'd find out when he got there. "And I find you plenty exciting, so don't put yourself down, or anything."
"So you get to dress up and everything to hear him play? Now I'm picturing you in a suit, smoking a cigar and drinking martini's," Jessalyn teased. "That's really nice that you're going to support him and everything though. Have you decided what movie you want to see?" She was happy with just about anything that wasn't scary.
"Oh, god, no cigar or martini, thanks," Tayne laughed. "And I'm actually kind of weirded out by the idea that I'm gonna hafta wear a suit. Going to a movie is much more my style than fancy bars where I gotta wear a tie." Did he even own a tie? He wasn't sure. "Aaaand are you okay with Wolverine? Or do you want something less super-hero-y?"
"I think you would look handsome in a suit," Jessalyn told him, her eyes on the road ahead. "And Wolverine sounds good! I like Hugh Jackman. He's cute." She shot Tayne a smile. "I promise not to swoon and drool in your presence though." It had been a long time since she had been to the movies, so she was pretty excited. And it had been an even longer time since she had seen an action movie.
Tayne merely snorted at her belief he'd look good in a suit. Only if discomfort made for handsomeness, because he was definitely going to be uncomfortable. "Swoon if you want to. At least I'll be there to catch you." Besides, he'd probably agree. Hugh Jackman was hot. "Wolverine it is, then!"
"Awesome, then I'll totally swoon. Since I heard you get to see his butt in this movie." She winked at Tayne and pulled up to the movie theater. "I'll buy the popcorn!" Greasy, buttery popcorn. Yum. She would have to drag Madock to the movies sometime this summer so they could neck in the back row.
Tayne hadn't heard that, but now he was, stupidly, more glad he was going to see it. And with a girl, so he wouldn't have to be too guy-ish and stoic. Awesome. "You get the popcorn, I'll get the tickets, how's that?" he suggested, grinning, and once she'd parked climbed out of the car and gave a good stretch.
"I think that sounds completely fair," Jessalyn said, locking her doors and dropping her keys into her bag as she followed him into the theater. "What time do you have to go see the piano man?"
"Whenever I'm done here," Tayne shrugged and smiled, fishing his wallet out of his pocket. "He's working until two, or something really late like that, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of time once the movie's over. I'm not worried about being late or anything." He peered at the movie times as they approached. One nice thing about getting off work at six: evening movies generally started between six and seven.
"I'll go get the popcorn," Jessalyn said before heading toward the concession stand. Thankfully there weren't that many people there on a Thursday night, though she was sure that was bound to change soon enough. School was done, and graduation would be over this weekend. But Jess always liked a semi-empty theater. There was less distractions and less people she wanted to smell.
Given they were seeing a movie that'd been out for weeks now, a semi-empty theater was probably a good bet. Tayne paid for their tickets, then wandered after Jess, looking at "coming soon" posters with interest. Oh, man, Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in the same movie together. That was gonna be good. "We ready to go?" he asked Jess with a smile as he caught up.
Jessalyn held the large bucket of popcorn to her chest and nodded. She got the largest size and it was probably more than either of them would need but... free refill! The guy behind the counter had made it sound like the best deal, so how could she refuse? "Do you want anything else? I could get you some candy! Or one of those hot dogs..." Which looked beyond cooked, in her opinion.
"Popcorn's fine," Tayne said with a grin, giving her shoulders a quick squeeze. "Those hot dogs look like they died an hour ago, anyway, and you don't wanna listen to me complain about how I could've cooked 'em better." He stuck her ticket under her gaze and added with fake gallantry, "Your ticket, madam?"
"That or how bad your stomach hurts after eating one," Jessalyn said before reaching out to pluck her ticket from his hand. "Thank you, kind sir." She would have curtsied if it didn't mean bending down and spilling the popcorn all over the floor. "Are you ready for some mutant claws and naked butts?"
Tayne laughed-- was he ready, ha-- and said, "Oh, I think I am. Most definitely." Holding up his own ticket he added triumphantly, "Onward! To theater nine!"
