Respect for the Dead
Who: Colin and Zero Where: Scarlet Oaks Cemetery When: Just after dark
Some people were just assholes. Colin shifted to a crouch, brushing the grass and leaves from the knees of his jeans. He'd just finished cleaning the trash off of April's grave. Her remains had been found after he'd burned down his sire's home, along with three other victims. His sire had posthumously taken the blame, labeled a psychopath and a monster. And they didn't even have a clue how bad, had no idea he was a vampire. If they dug, they probably could find more bones and remains. But they seemed content to leave it with what they had.
At least her family had gotten some closure. He remembered the pleas of her mother on television, asking for her daughter's safe return. Poor woman, she'd been a good mom. All of April's memories of her were positive. Neither of them deserved what had happened to the poor girl. Anders had loved to torment him by making him watch the news reports about April. Bastard. He was the one life Colin never regretted taking, even for a moment. Even with him rattling around in his head with the rest for all eternity.
So having someone defile her grave with trash just pissed him off. April had been abused and mistreated by the world enough in life, she deserved some peace in death. It was the least he could do for her.
Letting out a long, useless breath, Colin carefully laid the small bouquet of flowers he'd gotten for her. Mostly irises from people's yards. They were her favorite. And a couple of lilies, for peace. He didn't know why he knew that, but he did. It was getting to the point the memories were so muddled he couldn't always tell who's they were.
