Who: Kikuya, Oyuri (NPC), and a slew of yakuza (NPC)
Where: Akuno residence in the Shibuya district of Tokyo, Japan
When: Afternoon of August 4th, 1989
Warning: Gore and violence
"Kiki, darling, do you want maguro or toro?"
"I want unagi!"
Oyuri sighed softly while shaking her head. Her daughter had always been picky with her food and some days there was simply no pleasing her. Subaru was out for the afternoon with Eiji and grandmother Mizu, leaving her alone with the young witch. Looking over her shoulder, she eyed Kikuya sitting in the living room while flipping through some spell books. Ah yes, the young one was definitely learning quickly, to say the least, and at the rate she was going was going to master both blood and black magic before she hit the age of thirty.
Kikuya had an unquenchable thirst for magic and was constantly asking for her mother to teach her something new or have Oyuri fling a spell about for show. It was usually amusing when they were out shopping and she cast a massive good luck charm on the two of them, which usually resulted in a nearby car colliding into another one for a fatal accident. Oops. Oyuri never seemed to mind, especially when they would be given a free lunch and while taking a break from shopping.
Though he daughter had something that Oyuri didn't - demonic blood. She envied the little one to some extent for inheriting her father's strong demonic roots, and knew that one day the child would exceed her mother's powers, but for now that wasn't the case. Oyuri was a master at her own magic and far ahead of Kikuya's league.
"Mom, what does this one do?"
"What does what one do, Kiki?" She raised a brow while in the middle of rolling up her daughter's sushi.
Sighing and rolling her eyes, Kikuya forced herself out of the plush chair as she grabbed the spell book and wandering into the kitchen to show her mother. The young one was already showing the typical self-centered attitude of a demonic-blooded human, something that Oyuri had to deal with. Glancing over to where Kikuya was pointing out in the book, she merely chuckled at her daughter while shaking her head.
"That's a spell that's far out of your league, Kiki."
"No it's not." The young witch was rather confident in her voice. "I want to know what it is." She flicked her pin straight, black hair over her shoulder, standing impatiently by her mother's side until she finally decided to inform Kikuya what it was.
"It's a black magic spell, very powerful. It's meant to deteriorate the skin of a human with just a single glance."
"All of it?"
"Yes, Kiki, all of it. You shouldn't get your head into something that advanced. You're only level two with black and this is something only a master is capable of handling."
"Someone like you?" Kikuya smirked slightly while eying her mother with great intent.
A sigh escaped Oyuri as she finished up her daughter's lunch, handing her the plate of maguro as she settled for the plate of toro. "Perhaps. Don't be worrying about a spell. Eat up, you'll need the strength."
"Are we going to practice more spells, mom?!" A delight look overcame Kikuya as she bounced on over to kneel down at their table.
"Only if you be quiet and eat up like a proper young lady." She shot her daughter a stern look while joining her at the table, poking her sushi around with her chopstick before digging in. The two ate in silence, Kikuya sitting up straight with her elbows to her side as she politely ate up her sushi. Oyuri was happy that the girl had some manners and respect left in her. Thankfully her father wasn't around or else he would have chewed her out for giving Oyuri a tough time about the lack of unagi. The girl couldn't have everything she wanted... not yet, anyways.
With the last roll of sushi to her lips, Kikuya paused upon hearing an abrupt knock on the door. "Dad must be back early." She beamed at the concept while putting her piece of sushi down and slipped away from the table to walk on over to the front door. Oyuri, however, sat there rather puzzled. Subaru wasn't due to be home until nightfall at the earliest, not to mention he almost never knocked on the door if he forgot his keys. With a puzzled look strung upon her face, she briskly rose to her feet and caught up with Kikuya. Just before the child reached out to the door, Oyuri heard voices on the other side - male voices that did not match up with Subaru's.
Fear filled her eyes as she reached out to Kikuya, pulling her back as a hand clamped over her mouth. Her daughter struggled against her mother as she opened up the coat closest nearby and tossed the young child inside. Stumbling behind the array of jackets, she spun around to open her mouth and yell at her mother's abrupt actions, but with a wave of Oyuri's hand, Kikuya was suddenly rendered speechless. Her voice... was gone?! Snapping her fingers three times also secured her daughter firmly in place in the closet, much to Kikuya's disbelief. Oyuri never wanted to curse her family for whatever reason, but this was for a good cause.
Closing the door, Oyuri took in a deep breath to calm down, rudely disturbed by a second, harsher knock. Glaring at the door, she made her way to it and unlocked it quickly before opening it. And it was just who she suspected, sadly.
"Aaaah! Oyuri! What a pleasure to see you!"
It was Ryu, an old business partner of Subaru's. And by old, she meant ex, and by business partner, she meant Yakuza. How could she forget the sadistic man? He and Subaru trained together in the same gang, did literally almost everything together. Though Subaru wanted more. He heeded the thirst for power that lingered in his demonic blood and eventually stepped away from the gang to form his own where he could be the leader. It never settled well with Ryu, especially when he went after every single thing that used to belong to him - friends, businesses, contacts.
Even a certain geisha that Ryu had his eyes set on for years.
"How are you fairing these days, hmm? Is Subaru treating you well?" Ryu stepped inside of her home, followed by at least a dozen men. They didn't even have the decency to remove their shoes as the wandered on inside. Such filthy pigs! Oyuri glared at Ryu as he closed the door, watching the sly smirk grow on his face. "You look surprised to see me."
"Subaru isn't here, Ryu. It'd be best for you to leave." Oyuri stood her ground while growling at him.
"I'm not here for that pathetic fool." He reached out to the lovely woman, trailing a hand down her cheek and neck. "I'm here for you."
Scoffing gently, Oyuri batted his hand away, listening to the other thugs chuckle at her actions. "You'd be smart to leave, Ryu."
Her warning elicited an even more massive amount of laughter from the posse, though Oyuri was not even the slightest amused. One of the men behind her bullied her, asking what the hell a small ex-geisha could possibly do to scare them off. It wasn't like she struck horror into the hearts of men through her enticing dances or flawless tea pouring. He continued to insult her, reaching out to grab her shoulder in hopes to spin her around and spit in her face. Oyuri already heard his heavy steps coming towards her and immediately threw up a hand as she chanted a quick protection spell. Once he was inches away from her shoulder, the barrier backlashed onto the man, whipping dark energy at his face as he cried out in agony before dropping to the floor.
Now no one was laughing anymore.
"I'll repeat myself one more time, Ryu." Oyuri looked down at the cringing man before returning her gaze to him. "You'd be smart to leave."
Kikuya stood in the closet, barely able to peak through the slanted shades of the door. Somewhere in her mind she was thankful to be taller than most girls her age, thus able to catch a glimpse of what was going on. Though she couldn't talk or move, she mentally cheered her mother on, hoping she would teach the men a lesson or two or ten.
Everyone stood in silence, not knowing what to make of the master witch that stood before them. As all his henchmen looked in his direction, Ryu briskly nodded and watched as several lunched towards Oyuri, unsheathing a variety of weapons from their trenchcoats. The witch acted fast, put up another defensive shield followed by creating a mass of dark energy to fling at her opponents with ease. As one of the men revealed a gun to shoot at her, the bullet ricocheted off of her shield and the backlash snapped his wrist.
The sound of the men yelping in pain was music to Oyuri's ears, and she even took the moment to cast a crippling spell upon one of the men, watching him shake and tremble before falling onto the floor in immense pain. Another man had his skin suddenly burst into boils while the one behind him suffered from his body swelling up to the point he couldn't function properly. Several more tried firing their guns at her, but the black barrier she put around herself was enough to deflect the bullets and in turn make them suffer from a horrible backlash for even tampering with her.
Once all of the henchmen were on the ground whimpering like babies, she turned around to see Ryu standing there completely unfazed. The best spell was saved for last - for him. With a devilish smirk on her face, Oyuri chanted the words to the ancient spell. A spell that could literally crush every bone in his body. Ryu could finally die and leave both her and Subaru be. This was going to be the end of him. And the final words slipped past her lips as she thrusted her hand forward towards Ryu, hoping his end would be painful.
Though Ryu didn't scream out in pain, nor did he crumble to the ground as his bones failed him. Instead Oyuri threw her head back as she shrieked, feeling her legs give out on her as she collapsed to the ground. She hadn't been keeping track of how many spells she was flinging around, which would lead to an inevitable backlash. Of all her spells that had to fail and counterattack her, it had to be this one. With the bones in her legs crushed, she cried loudly while trying to recompose herself. Ryu, however, merely smirked and cackled at the witch.
He said nothing to her as he closed the distance between the two and instead basked in the sound of her helpless cries. What a delightful sound. Kikuya wished her mother hadn't bound her to the closet, or else she would have rushed out and use the blood on the ground to cast a blood spell in hopes to stun the evil man. She didn't know what he wanted from her mother, but she only hoped that he would leave Oyuri be soon.
Once he opened his trenchcoat and revealed the pristine shotgun underneath, Oyuri began to frantically ramble off nonsensical words. She asked Ryu to leave her and her family alone, that his jealous of Subaru was childish and meaningless. She told him that no matter what he did he could never strike at the heart of her husband, for he was stronger than Ryu would ever be. Though he didn't listen to a word she said and merely shoved the barrel of the shotgun into her mouth. Oyuri sat there, tears streaming down her cheeks as she choked on the metal, staring up at Ryu with quivering eyes.
"I beg to differ," was all he said.
With a pull of the trigger, the shotgun exploded with immense force, blasting through the witch's head and splattering the bloody remains across the floor and wall. The lifeless, decapitated body of Oyuri slowly slumped over onto the floor. Ryu sighed and forced his men onto their feet, regardless of how much pain they were in. Thankfully none were dead, but most were wussy babies complaining about a broken wrist. Within seconds the gang left the scene, leaving Kikuya by herself in the closest.
The bind had left the girl the moment her mother ceased to exist, but she remained motionless and speechless in the closet. It wasn't until she trembled down to her knees that she realized she could move on her own accord, and she slowly emerged from the closet to see the corpse of her mother. The white walls were completely painted in dripping, crimson blood, along with a few hunks of brain cemented to the structure. Kikuya's eyes were glued to the headless body of Oyuri and her lips shook as she tried to utter out words.
"...mom?"
There was no reply for Kikuya. Not even a gentle smile followed by a warm embrace. Shaking her head in disbelief, she blinked her brown eyes, several tears trailing down her pale cheeks.
"...mom?!"
Kikuya dropped down to her knees as she reached out to the body, not caring she she ruined her own clothing. She had plenty more where that came from. All that was on her mind was her mother and what happened. The sound of the shotgun still echoed in her mind as her hands soaked up her mother's blood. Lowering her head, the girl wept softly as blood pooled around her body. Oyuri was gone. There would be no more daily rituals with her or lessons on how to properly cast an offensive spell. There would be no more shopping expeditions about Shibuya followed by lunch at that one corner restaurant, where the owners knew the two by name. There would even be no more geisha lessons from her mother, where she taught Kikuya the fine art of being an alluring young lady, which would one day help her out in the modeling world.
It was all gone now.
