Who: K-lee and Whisper
When: Twilight
Where: Whisper's home
The fact that Whisper hadn't made it secret that she was a vampire did absolutely nothing to appease K-lee's discontent when she found out. Especially after her little run-in the other night with that bastard who had been intent on nothing other than sucking her blood. Ugh that was still giving her the shivers. Because it hurt, the model reasoned with herself as she pulled her car up in front of Whisper's house, squeezing the steering wheel while gathering her courage. On the seat next to her, Malo was busy grooming himself, having already declared that he really didn't want to go into a vampire's home if he had any chance in the matter.
"Stay here and be the coward," K-lee snapped as she finished readjusting her make-up in the rearview mirror, shoving the door open and stepping out. Before Malo could say anything, though she doubted he would, she slammed the door and practically stalked to the front door. It hadn't been possible to remark on it the day before, not with the other models there, but K-lee was a lot more confident now and wanted to do if she'd been chosen just because her blood might taste good. That one vamp had certainly seemed to enjoy it. She raised her hand up and rung the doorbell, arms crossed and foot tapping as she waited.
Whisper had been having a nice evening, eyes glued on the television as she played the third season of America's Next Top Model to keep the silence down. Her afternoon had been rather soothing, Ad Gustum was really quite convenient for someone like her who did not have the time to search out a suitable replacement, and she had returned to her home content and full, ready for possibly the entire evening. That was probably going to change once night fell and the lull started to fade, but why think about that when she was in such a good mood? She was tempted to call Kikuya and tell her to come watch the season with her, knowing the woman would not refuse if she was available, but before she could pick up the phone there was an unexpected ringing of her doorbell.
After checking her reflection in the mirror and patting down an imagined stray lock of hair, Whisper pulled the door open, grateful again for the trees that kept the fading rays of the sun from touching her. "Oh, K-lee, this is unexpected," the vampire said, not quite moving aside. "Is there something I can help you with?" Perhaps it would be a good idea to not inform all of her models where she lived... maybe she should look into an actual building.
"Yeah, I'd like to talk to you," K-lee said, unable to keep the annoyance out of her voice. Whisper looked, just like last time, absolutely perfect and it was completely unfair that she could do that. K-lee'd have been willing to bet that she didn't even have to try because, well, if she was a vampire then she was probably really old and it was just habit to her now. And habits required hardly any thought. "Could I come in? Don't really like standing outside when it's getting dark." Not that she was afraid of the dark, hell no. She was just being... cautious.
Whisper thought for a moment before nodding and stepping aside to allow K-lee in, closing the door behind her. "I was just watching season three of ANTM," the vampire explained as she walked towards the living room, clicking the 'mute' button before folding herself back onto the couch, slipping out of her heels before her feet tucked up underneath of her. It may have looked relaxed, but Whisper was just as capable of moving from this position as from any other. She was a vampire after all. After motioning K-lee to sit down she asked, "Now, what is that you want to talk to me about that's so very important? Normally I prefer to be warned in advance, you should remember that for future events." Her voice was not scolding or reprimanding, but rather informative. Whisper did not like it when one of her models got out of line, it encouraged it in the others.
K-lee was taken a bit aback by Whisper's calmness, the way she asked her in and settled back down on the couch then used that tone with her that had the model ducking her head almost instantly. She'd learned a long time ago that listening to designers was the way she was supposed to behaved, otherwise she'd be without a job. And I need this job. Whisper's tone shook her into remembering that just being rude wasn't going to get her anywhere, so she quickly pulled on her most polite attitude as she took her seat. "I just... have a few concerns," K-lee said slowly, eyes flicking between the screen and Whisper. Now that she was actually here, it seemed kind of ridiculous. Whisper didn't seem even the slightest interested in her or her blood.
This was nothing new to Whisper. Not many of her models had known what she was over the years, those who did usually ending up as a lover of some sort or another at least for a time - until Karine got her hands on them - but almost every one who had learned had had the same question. 'Are you going to eat me?' An answer which depended completely upon the person, their blood type and how they behaved. Whisper could not stand just feeding off someone because she was hungry, though she had done it, and preferred it to be someone who would give her some sort of attention. Paying at Ad Gustum? Counted. They gave her everything she wanted and needed. "Really, K-lee, if you're going to ask what I think you're going to then you'd best just leave. I'd hate to have to let you go after you came all of this way because you think I'm going to eat you."
The witch should have been relieved at those words, but if anything she was actually a little displeased. Wasn't her blood good enough? Now you're being absolutely ridiculous and need to stop before something bad happens. Tempting a vampire, really? That'd rank right down with her other bad ideas. "Can you really blame me?" she asked instead. "I mean, it's just what you need and I'm sure it's better fresh than from the blood banks." People who would actually donate to those things, K-lee didn't get them. Getting stabbed with a needle did happen to hurt.
Whisper's smile was bemused. "I never drink from blood banks, far too impersonal and it gets the taste of plastic from the bags they keep it in." Humans and some vampires may have thought it a good idea, but every vampire really knew that the only way to go was drinking from the source. Those who claimed that it was exactly the same if you heated the blood up in a microwave... Whisper very nearly shuddered just at the thought. Disgusting. And it was a shame to their race, to degrade themselves to drinking from bottles, almost as bad as trying to feed off of animals. Damnable Stephanie Meyer. "Nor do I just bite anyone who tempts me. I'm a very particular woman, I only like certain things, and I don't drink without the proper attention. There's nothing in it that I want if I go about it that way." The blood was a comfort, of course, but conversation helped or at least a bond of friendship. Sleeping together was the very best way, naturally, but Whisper did not have to say that.
This wasn't the conversation K-lee had expected. Whisper was talking about the whole thing very matter-of-factly and, suddenly, K-lee realized that she'd probably had it before. I'm not curious. She thought that, but her mouth went off and asked, "What do you mean that you only drink certain types?" Despite herself, K-lee found herself leaning forward, pulling her knees up to her chest to prop her chin on them. It felt kind of like when she learned things from her aunt about the supernatural world. Even if Whisper was a vampire and K-lee had assured herself that she didn't like vampires. It's because she's my boss. That's it. She had done a lot of things just to make her boss happy.
"I prefer a certain blood because it was the one that I had in life," Whisper explained, as though to a child. She could not deny that she rather enjoyed being asked questions like this because it meant that she was being paid attention to. The reasoning behind them did not really matter, so long as it was not openly hostile. "B+ human is my favorite... but I've developed quite the taste for born witches with B or AB." She flashed a smile, knowing that her fangs would gleam in the light. "Or demonic. I have a favorite donor when I'm willing to pay her price. Most vampires take what they can get no matter what their favorite is, but I will not settle for less than what I want." Could not settle was more like it, tasting any other kind of blood was enough to make her feel rather ill. "Are you afraid that you have blood I would enjoy? As I said, I won't just take it because it's there. I'm not impolite."
K-lee was staring, she knew she was staring but she couldn't help herself. She'd always thought that all vampires just wanted whatever blood they could get their hands on, something she was pretty sure she'd seen in action, but if what Whisper was saying was true... coming to this place is really starting to mess with my head. Mermaids dumping Coke on me, ex-girlfriend who smashed my face in dating said mermaid, vampires trying to drain me dry while another wants me to model... huh, wonder what I should call home about first. Or right, can't forget the talking lynx. "Well, not afraid exactly, but with what you've just said... can you smell what kind of blood I have?" B+ born witch with demonic blood, yeah she was sure she sounded like a feast.
Sighing, this was the second time in less than a few days she had been asked if she could figure out blood just by scent, Whisper shook her head. "I can tell that you have B+, I've become very familiar with the scent as you can imagine. But other than that..." she shrugged her shoulders. "For all I know, you're a were. Though I doubt it, the rest of you doesn't smell right for that." She was not particularly fond of the scent of were's, especially those who had canine forms. Actually, those were not allowed anywhere near her once she discovered what they were and she would happily hire a hunter to end their miserable existence for her. "Only way I know otherwise is if you tell me, or I have a taste." Though there was Kaialani at Ad Gustum... she was still puzzling over what that woman was.
That sent a bit of a shiver down K-lee's spine, which faded fast because Whisper still wasn't looking at her like she was a meal. "So if I told you that I'm a demonic-blooded born witch..." she let her voice trail off, arching an eyebrow. There's one way to get higher on the favored scale. K-lee may have come with the intention of making sure Whisper wasn't going to turn her into a meal, but now it was starting to seem like a way to jump right past Kikuya.
Whisper could not help it, her eyes lit up a little. Two of her models? That was possibly the best sort of luck a vampire like her could ask for. "Then that's who you are," was all Whisper actually said. What else was she going to say, that K-lee sounded absolutely delicious? Well, that was completely true, but Whisper had never gotten a source quite that way. "But I'm not going to just jump on you... I have my sources and they keep me rather well." Even if hearing that had made her throat ache. K-lee was not a bad looking woman, had actually shown that off quite well during her session with the swim suits.
"How about if I let you feed off me?" K-lee asked, making a face inwardly at the idea of all of the pain that'd come with it. Being bitten on the palm had hurt bad enough, what would the neck be like? "What could I get for that?"
"Get?" Whisper asked, arching an eyebrow. "I'm not in the business of offering things for blood. As I said, I have my sources and I already pay enough for them without adding another source in. Though if the occasion ever arises when I might need something... well, I prefer my blood come from a friend... or..." Her voice drifted off as she lounged back on the couch, a smug smile on her face.
K-lee's curiosity got the best of her despite her self, not to mention her pride. To make an offer like that and be told that she wasn't need? The witch didn't like that one bit. Bet she's drank from Kikuya... oh. Oh! That'd explain why the other was so favored, not just because of how long she'd been there. "Or what?" she asked, leaning forward. She may have needed this job, but she'd be damned if she was going to work it without being the top. At least in her own mind.
"Or they find another way to please me," Whisper said simply, stretching out and standing. "This has been a pleasant conversation, K-lee, but as you're just sitting there and making me hungry I'd rather you go." She did not need to beg for anything, she had her ways and she was quite proud.
Another way to... hmmm... perhaps those rumors weren't just rumors after all. "Maybe I'll come back tomorrow and help you out with that," she suggested smoothly as she stood and started for the door, moving very deliberately and tossing a smile over her shoulder. Inside she shuddered at the thought of doing anything with a vampire, but it was countered by the fact that this vampire didn't look anything like the ones she'd always imagined. Plus... she was her boss. Getting a step up was something she'd never object to.
Whisper shrugged, sinking back down into the couch even though she continued to watch K-lee until she was out of the door. "Yes, maybe." And her eyes went back to watching the television, turning the volume back up as though she had never been interrupted, though now she had a smile playing about her lips. A vampire could never have enough willing sources. Eventually regular trips to Ad Gustum might get too expensive even for her.
