Because I just can't. She didn't say it out loud though.
"HAH." She couldn't believe he just said that. "We were inseparable when we were younger! If I asked you how I got every scar on my knees, you would know how. You know why? Because you were there when it happened. You were there when my mother got in that wreck with my aunt when I was seven and I couldn't stop crying for days. You were there when my first tooth loosened and we tried to yank it out with the string and door knob gag. Which didn't work, as you probably remember. Remember the time that we watched that meteor shower in my back yard and we said that we were going to explore space together? You were there. So yeah, we were close."
"You are NOT a loser or a freak!" She wanted to curl into a ball and cry. "Why does it even matter? Did you really just ask me that?" Oh boy. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she tried to think of what to say. "You know what? Nevermind. Just tear up that stupid letter I put in your bag." She slammed her locker shut and grabbed her bookbag. "Don't even read it. It's not like it would matter anyways, right?" She said before she turned around and walked away from him. The tears just wouldn't stop. She was so angry that she couldn't see straight and her heart hurt.
