Her compliments tended to be weird, because she was out of practice. Even when she was in practice they could be awkward, because she was never very socially adept. She was talking with Sadie more than she'd talked to people in a first conversation back when she was alive; it was a first for both of them of sorts. "A family named," Josette said, nodding. "That's very special."
It took her a second to realize what Sadie meant about there being only one Oak. Then she laughed. It came in clearer than anything she had said previously; it was the first time she'd laughed in a long time, several months at least. "My mistake," she said with a few last chuckles, "Scarlet Oak. I'm sorry about that, I only recently came here. You're the first resident I've spoken with, I think. I suppose I should ask you where all the best haunting grounds are here." She grinned at her own little pun. It was the sort of weak humor she entertained.
