Coffeeshops are good for random meetings.
Who: Ross and Coby
Where: The Mudhouse
When: Late afternoon

Coby needed caffeine, and bad. Her first night at Shimmer had been good, but thoroughly exhausting. Even after ten hours of sleep she was tired. After ordering a cappuccino with three shots, she glanced around for a place to sit. It was packed at this time of day, so there were no free tables. She grabbed her drink from the barista and headed over to a table where there was only one guy sitting. He was pretty cute too.

"Mind if I sit here?" She asked, as she sat across from him. Not that he had much of a choice, she was going to sit here anyway. "I'm Coby, nice to meet you." The werelioness glanced him over, noticing the wedding band. Well, shit. She'd flirt anyway. Even if his wife was in the coffee shop, Coby could leave. Or take her down if the woman decided to freak out.

Ross was diligently flipping through his paperwork for various projects. The museum wanted to renovate one of the sections in his department, which was going to be living hell, and on top of that they were in the process of closing up the Giacometti exhibit and trying hard to ship the piece back out to their respectful owners. It didn't help that he was also juggling papers to grade for one of his classes along with glancing at the list of exhibits the Times wanted him to check out some time soon. It looked like he was going to have to trek out to Chicago at some point which made him sigh heavily.

And then there was a voice that caught him off guard. Snapping his head up, Ross eyed the young girl, blinked his eyes, then flashed a warm smile to her. "Oh, sure thing. Here, let me get all of this out of your way." He quickly gathered all the papers that were splayed out across the table and neatly stacked them into a pile off to the side. He then grabbed for his own drink, a hazelnut iced latte, took a sip, then returned his attention back to her. "Nice to meet you, Coby, I'm Ross!" Still smiling to her, he extended his hand to Coby in hopes for a friendly handshake.

He was sure friendly. Coby didn't mind that at all. She smiled in return and shook his hand, her handshake firm but not ripping his hand off. Her fingertips caressed the inside of his wrist as she pulled her hand away, to wrap both of them around her drink. Even in warm weather, Coby loved hot drinks. Maybe it had something to do with her lioness side, but she was never warm enough.

"So what do you have to sigh about, cutie?" She hadn't missed the heavy sigh before she introduced herself. Coby peeked at the paperwork but couldn't make heads or tails of it. "You look busy, at least."

A mixture of both her emotions and calling him a 'cutie' clued Ross in on one dominating detail - this girl was definitely in a flirty mood. Ross wasn't entirely sure what to make of it either. Aside from the woman he met at the bookstore during the weekend, Coby was the only other person who made any remote advances on him. He smiled a bit nervously, feeling a bit intimidated with how forward she was, then glanced down to his paperwork before looking back up at her.

"Always busy. When you have three jobs that you juggle around you tend to carry around a mountain of papers. Thankfully they have yet to topple onto me, so I'm good so far!" He chuckled at the thought while easing back into his seat. At least she was good company so far. Ross always enjoyed having younger people around him strictly to be enlightened with their way of thinking. It was refreshing to say the least, so far all he knew Coby was going to be a good encounter.

"Oh wow, three jobs? I can barely manage the one and get enough sleep. What do you do?" Coby asked. She was dressed in a simple brown t shirt, jeans, and blue tennis shoes. Not her sexiest outfit in the world, but then again, Coby wasn't out to impress much of anybody. Coby had never been very good at catching on to when people were nervous. She leaned forward on the table, resting her head in her hand and taking another sip of her cappuccino.

The were really didn't know what was up with her being attracted to older guys lately, but she honestly hadn't met many younger guys. She was starting to wonder if it was a fetish. At least it wouldn't be a weird one, like enjoying being peed on. Ew.

Ross wasn't dressing to impress either. He wore a simple band tshirt with comfortable jeans and sneakers. Didn't make him look like the artsy type, especially with his tattoos showing off, but he definitely was at heart. He was going to have to change into something a bit more suitable when he headed into the museum later on, but for now he was content with his attire.

"Oh geez, let's see if I can remember all of this now." He chuckled while shaking his head. "I'm the museum coordinator for the contemporary gallery at the Detroit Institute of Art, I'm an art critic for the Time back in New York, and I'm a visiting lecturer over at U of M, teaching art history. The last one doesn't really feel like a job to me, seeing it's only twice a week, but the other two are a massive handful. Keeps me busy, that's for sure." Ross smiled, took a couple more sips from his iced beverage, then looked back to Coby. "And you? What do you do? Hopefully not juggle three jobs!"

Coby was interested in his tattoos, and would have to ask what they stood for if she sat here long enough. "Wow, sounds awesome. Guess you really like art then. I'm the electrician, lights person, whatever, for Shimmer here in town. Just got the job a couple days ago. "

He was so energetic. It was catching. Not that Coby minded, she needed energy to go to work tonight. Though she had texted Sonny just before coming here and talked him into cooking dinner for her. That was something to look forward to.

"So what's your favorite piece of art then? I know, big question to ask, but I'm curious." She watched him with dark eyes to see his response. Coby wondered how a guy with three jobs still maintained a marriage, and the thought crept up in her mind. Probably divorced or something, trying to forget about his ex, but still in love with her. Sad.

"My favorite piece?" Oh geez, that wasn't a loaded question at all. "I guess it might be easier for me to say what's not my favorite piece!" He laughed at that then took a second to think it through entirely while drinking his iced latte. After it finally came to him, he smacked his lips as he pulled the drink away and looked back to Coby. "I'm probably going to have to go with Pollock's Number 31. I used to work in MoMa back in New York and would get to see it every day. It took up an entire wall and I swear I had a different reaction to it each time I saw it. Truly amazing." Not to mention he enjoyed the emotions of those viewing the painting as well.

"And what's this Shimmer place? I think I saw it in the news the other day about having a grand opening or something? Either that or I'm imagining things." Probably not the place Ross was interested in, but he was too good-natured to not ask Coby.

Hm. Coby typed that into her phone and was intrigued to see what she found. "Huh. You must have a better eye for that stuff than me, all I see is paint dribbles." She grinned, almost apologetically. The werelioness had never been big into art, she would much rather tinker with wires. Though that was an art in itself sometimes.

"It's a--uh--gay and supernatural club." Coby laughed. "I've got some experience working with club lighting and videos and stuff, so that's why I applied there. The setting is a bit much for even me." It was definitely..out there.

Ross wasn't surprised with Coby's reaction to the painting. A lot of people who didn't understand art were never fond of the piece. So many critisized it as being too simple and that their children could do it. What Ross always said in reply was that yes, a kid could do it, but would the same kid be able to conceptualize the whole piece? The answer to that was obviously no, unless there were some crazy brainiac kids running around that Ross wasn't aware of.

"A gay and supernatural club?" It took a second for that one to settle in. Ross held no prejudices for either, but holy crap, talk about killing two birds with one stone. "That sounds interesting to say the least!" He laughed a bit before continuing. "But hey, you got a job! And if it's something you like, then that's all that matters."
