She had the paint brush poised over the wall when he came upstairs again. Darcy looked at him over her shoulder. "Alright. Let me know if you need help." Not that she could really go outside in just his tee shirt. A short while later, the words were painted on the wall in careful script, the outline of a butterfly over the right corner of the words. The rest of the walls were dry enough for decals, but maybe the furniture needed to be set up first.
Darcy headed down stairs, finding the sight of him lifting and moving things more arousing than she should have. "Do you need any help with that?" she asked softly. "And I want you to take a look at the way I did the words. Want to make sure Grace is going to like it." She moved to his side and touched his arm again.
Austin stopped what he was doing and put his arm around her. "I'm sure she's going to love it, but lets go look at it." He walked with her up the stairs and was amazed at her work. The quote was beautiful. It was going to look great over Grace's bed. Her handwriting was precise and everything lined up perfectly straight. "It looks awesome," he complimented. He kissed her cheek. "Thank you so much. I truly appreciate it. And I know Gracie will too."
"I'm glad you like it." It felt good to know he thought his daughter was going to like it too. Darcy allowed herself to snuggle into him more. She was still confused and she would have to think about it later, but for now, he was there. He was at her side and she turned and she brushed her lips over his again. Softly, this time, but no less intense. "I think we have time to set up the furniture and put the other wall decorations up," she said softly when she pulled away, looking up at him with a soft smile.
Austin kissed her back, feeling like she was almost too good to be true. "Great," he said. He unhappily moved away from her to clean up the painting supplies and drop cloths, tossing them into a large garbage bag. He brought up the Target bags and handed her the decals. "I'll leave these into your very capable hands." He gave her shoulder a squeeze before going back downstairs to start dragging the furniture up the stairs.
It was no easy task to get everything upstairs, but luckily with Darcy's help they were able to get the heaviest pieces up the stairs. They arranged the furniture, Darcy made up the bed and added the finishing touches on the room. When she was done, Austin wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "Looks so good!" And it really did. The room was purple, butterflies and modern as Grace had wished. It looked girlie, but not baby. Darcy had done a great job with the quote and arranging the butterfly decals. The chandelier added the right amount of sparkle and fun to the room.
