When he heard the sound of the wheels rolling on the sidewalk, he had a good idea that it was Blake before he actually saw if it was Blake or not. There weren’t that many people who skateboarded that much anymore. At least… that’s what Jack thought. It seemed to be something that was constantly there, sure, but the appeal of those Tony Hawk games (a series that Jackson wished would die just as much as Halo) was something that he never understood at all. The waves of conformity rarely hit him the way that they hit other people. Yes, he was prone to his moments of weakness, but they were rare and short… thankfully. His hunch was right, and he saw his brother a few moments later.
“It was fine,” he informed his brother, answering his inquiry. “I mean… at first it was kind of weird, you know? People were asking me about Myra most of the morning. My coworkers, the people who know who I am and know that she’s my sister. I got a lot of those questions throughout the day, but after the morning I got kind of used to them. Really, I thought I should have just had a sign hanging around my neck or something. It would say something like my sister is fine. Thank you for asking.’ It probably would have saved a lot of time… until I got the people who didn’t know who I was, and then they would ask about the sign and I would have to tell them…” it was a slippery slope. “I’m just happy to be working again. And happier that everything turned out okay.” As okay as it could, at least.
“Does mom know that we’re not going to be home for dinner?” Amelia had practice cooking for less children. In fact, with both Blake and Jack out for the night, it would be like cooking for the two children she had who still lived at the house full time as opposed to when all four of her children were home. “Not that it will stop her… she always makes too much anyway.” Maybe Annabelle would be able to eat everything that Amelia provided when he finally introduced his girlfriend to his family. Parker may have known that she was his girlfriend, but that was it.
