Who: Brian and Fox Where: Fox's office and wherever Brian is When: Friday afternoonish
Fox was glad to do what he did. It might not have been the most glamorous of jobs, but it was a job that he could be proud of. He knew that he would be prouder of still being a cop instead of being a private investigator, but he also knew that it was not going to happen. Maybe it could. He could apply to be on the Scarlet Oak force and he would probably get in. That was his passion. However, having had said passion stripped away from him once before was more than enough to make sure that he didn’t have to put himself through such pain again. So, instead of risking heartbreak, Fox did what he did best… he adjusted. He improvised. Being a private investigator wasn’t as good as being a cop… but it was the next best thing.
Sometimes, the results were the same. He could find information out about someone that would protect other people, or bring a happy ending to a sad story. His job may have focused more on the less than positive aspects of life, such as adultery, but that hardly meant that it was entirely like a book by Danielle Steele. Sometimes it could mean uniting people. That was what this case, or at least part of this case, was about.
When Brian hired him, Fox almost immediately got to work. It was two days later. Usually, Fox would have had results quicker, but his attempts at getting in touch with the other man did not work out so well the day prior. It was a new day, though, so maybe fortune would be on his side.
Fox pushed aside some of the papers that were on his desk (he was a fan of organized chaos) until he found the phone. Brian’s contact information was readily available and he dialed it, letting the phone ring and hoping that his client would pick up.
