A Much Belated Phone Call
Who: Alejandro and Vivienne
Where: Da phone
When: Early afternoon
When Alejandro, too restless to sleep any longer and yet too tired to brave sunlight-- though he really, really wanted to; it would feel so nice, he was sure of it-- resorted to cleaning up his coffee table and living room a bit, he found a crumpled napkin with a name and number on it. For a moment, he frowned at it in confusion, not remembering where it came from.
Then he placed the name with a face and it all came back. Aha. Vivienne. Who he... had said he'd call, after his weekend business. Uh-huh. Well, look how well he'd done at that.
Though Alejandro no longer had a whole lot of interest in the girl, he figured he might as well give her a call. He flopped down on his couch, ignoring the rest of the cleaning he should probably get back to, and punched her number into his phone-- a landline, since he was too poor for a cell phone.
Vivienne had taken the day off at the salon to catch up on a little bit of sleeping, so after getting home from the radio station, she slept a while, called in, went back to sleep and had just gotten up not long before her phone started ringing. She wasn't expecting anyone and the number didn't look familiar, but she picked up the phone and answered it regardless.
Hey, it could be important.
"Hello?"
"Well, hey, there, Viv." Alejandro grinned into the phone. Viv was so much more familiar than Vivienne, heh. "Sorry I took so long. Turns out I kinda tend to lose things?" Which, quite honestly, was true. His house was kind of a mess. He wasn't telling her who he was just yet, but he would if she asked.
Vivienne blinked a little and tried to place the voice. He hadn't given a name and she wasn't really sure at first who the man had been. Lose things? Like her number? Who'd she given her number too? Her side of the phone was quiet for a half a second before the pieces clicked together and she realized who it was. "Alejandro?" she asked. "The bartender, right?"
"Oh, good, you do remember," he chuckled. "Tequila sunrise and seven-up." Because he remembered the drinks he made people as much as if not more than the people themselves. "How are ya?"
She smiled. "I'm alright." she said. "I kinda lost hope in you calling." And then there was Brogan and he'd really distracted her from thinking about it too much. "How've you been?"
"Yeah, like I said... I lose things." He even managed to sound a little sheepish. "I been a'ight, though. Busy." Only not so much. Just work and sleep, pine after sunlight, sleep some more, work some more, lust after killing someone... god, his unlife sucked ass. He needed to do something about that. "What've you been up to?"
"Nothing really." Vivienne admitted. "Working... more working. Bumped into an old friend a few days back."
"Oh yeah?" Old friend? And why was she telling him that? Other than that, well... her life sounded about as exciting as his unlife. At least he had Jovie to lead around and hope she never guessed what he was.
Fucking expensive Jovie.
"Yeah." Vivienne didn't think he sounded too interested in her life, or her friend. "It was interesting." she shrugged. "Aside from that I haven't really been doing much of anything. I think I need to stop working so much and have more fun."
It was almost more suspicion than anything else. Alejandro's first thought was that this friend was a guy and she was telling him to make him jealous. He was a paranoid sort, expecting manipulation from anyone and everyone. "You and me both, Viv," he chuckled a bit. "Fuckin' work. If I didn't need the money so damn bad...."
Vivienne frowned a little at that. "I hear that." she said. "Hence the whole two jobs thing. I'm not really... hurting for money, but it'd be nice to be doing more than just... getting by." she sighed.
"It'd be nice to not be in debt," Alejandro agreed in a grumble. If he were getting by, he'd be ecstatic. That stupid fire elemental blood had been... stupid. He still didn't know if and when that damned hunter planned on collecting-- he'd been annoyingly vague on that, and it was hanging over Alejandro's head like a buzzard.
"I had to bust my ass at the salon to cover all my school bills. Apparently my parents believe it's good for me to learn a work ethic." Vivienne muttered.
Alejandro snorted, half in understanding and half in annoyance. His mother's idea of a work ethic was not dying, or if you did, taking the bastard who killed you with you. "Yeah, mi madre had no clue how to handle money. We were always in debt."
"Debt definitely isn't fun, that's for sure. I'm sure you'll figure a way out of it though. All those amazing bartending skills. That or you can get yourself a sugar mama." Vivienne smiled.
"Oh yeah, you can really get far with amazing bartending skills," Alejandro said, half-grinning and half-sarcastic. "I'd better find the sugar mama fast, or I'll be in trouble even faster. Don't suppose you'd fit the bill, what with only getting by, was it?"
"I'm definitely not a sugar mama." Vivienne chuckled. "Can't help you with that one. I'm still living in an apartment after all. I'd much rather not have a lease and be owning something. At least I don't live with my parents any longer."
"Well, I'll just have to cross that off my list for now," Alejandro sighed. "No Viv sugar-mama-ing. Not living with your parents is a pretty good step, though." Neither was he. Except, you know, for the fact that he probably would be if he hadn't been undead-i-fied a few months ago. Ugh. "So I guess takin' you out--" And taking her down, the more important part of the equation. "--isn't an option, either?"
Vivienne blinked a little at that. She wasn't sure what to say. She hadn't rightly expected Alejandro to ask her out. "You want to take me out?" she questioned, for the moment stalling. She wasn't quite sure how to respond. She didn't technically have a boyfriend, but she was moving in that direction. Or at least thought she did. Drinks couldn't hurt though, right? Or dinner or whatever. He could be a friend. Maybe.
"Well, isn't that the point of getting a girl's number and then calling her?" Alejandro asked, a little impatiently. He'd gone through the trouble of calling her, hadn't he? He really didn't do friends, so... yeah.
"Yes, yes I suppose it is. Okay, yeah, you can. Where do you wanna go?" she questioned. I have plans on Friday... but maybe we could do drinks or something sometime this weekend?"
Since Alejandro was definitely owing Jovie a dinner on Friday, thank god she had plans. "I'm off work Saturday night," he shrugged. Which meant... two nights in a row where he was usually out killing people... spent with women. This was both a very good thing and a very bad thing, at the same time. He wasn't sure how well he could control himself....
"Saturday then." she smiled. "I don't have to work so that works out just fine." Vivienne smiled. She did feel a little guilt about Brogan but she'd given her number to Alejandro before she even knew Brogan would step back into her life. Besides... just because she went out somewhere with him didn't mean anything. At least she was trying to convince herself of that. At least if she pretended Alejandro was just a friend, she wouldn't feel like such a whore.
"Sounds great. How do drinks sound?" He could at least pretend to like drinks. He had a hard time stomaching drinks, let alone actual food. And it was easier to get rid of a drink than find somewhere to squirrel away food. "'Bout nine?"
"Sounds lovely." Vivienne said, nodding despite the fact that Alejandro couldn't see it. "Shall I meet you or do you want to pick me up?"
After a beat of considering, Alejandro said, "I'll pick you up." After all, it wasn't like he had to worry about getting drunk and then driving, and picking her up meant more likelihood of getting invited in when he dropped her off.
"Sounds good then." she told him. She gave him the address and her apartment number. "I guess I'll be seeing you on Saturday then." Vivienne smiled.
Alejandro wrote that down, on the same napkin she'd written down her number, and tossed the pen down. "Sounds like it! See you then, Viv."
"See you." she smiled, then Vivienne hung up the phone. Well... was she a cheating slut? Maybe. She wasn't really sure. It wasn't cheating til there was a definite relationship, right?
