Forgiveness does not fly to those who yearn for it.
Her mother’s words were loud in her mind, but that did not change the aching inside of her core. The sharp agony that burned through her was born from guilt and loss, knowing that her life was not what it once was and not what she believed it to be just a few days ago. Drina could not believe that she was forced to live with two different lives, happy lives, ripped from her because of supernatural creatures. Losing the fairy magic stirred loose the buried memories of her husband and the son that never was.
The magic also revealed that her relationship with Marco was nothing more than friendship with unspoken attraction attached like a thread. There was no denying that she and Marco had great chemistry together, but she felt the spell was responsible for a great deal of that. The pain she felt for remembering how she no longer had Heath in her life was also there for Marco; she had not seen him since remembering and the way she left in a fit… She owed Marco an apology. An explanation. And it had to be in person. The pull inside of her chest to see him was almost overpowering.
She stood outside of his door with a small shoebox in her hand, a handful of possessions from her previous life to help her explain her behavior. He had every right to ignore her, to never speak to her again, but she owed him this much.
