Even if we knew something bad was going to happen that day, there isn't anything we could do about it. It sucks, but there's no way to change what's happened."
Yes, he was a hypocrite. Shut up. She needed to hear this stuff.
"Then Anders would have found somebody else," he told her. "Somebody else to do his damned torture experiments on and try to feed helpless kids to. If it wasn't me, it would have been someone else. Then more people might be dead, maybe even more people we care about. It just isn't so simple as that."
And he hadn't meant to tell her half of that. Oh well, he was blaming his stupid scattered brains.
