Becky very visibly flinched as the curse word ripped through the night. What he said after that, however, startled her more than the curse. It was unbelievable, or at least it would have been if there wasn't a vampire bar in the very town she lived in. Vampires existed. Colin wouldn't lie about something like that, would he?
"Vampire?" she whispered. The word felt like a weight on her tongue and she swallowed down air and glanced over at the baby monitor by her bed, the faint sound of the mobile as it turned above her baby in the next room.
"Please don't hurt me." she whispered, letting her eyes return to Colin once more. She half expected him to vanish into thin air. Expected him to disappear like smoke through a keyhole. But more than worrying about him disappearing, was that worry clawing at the back of her mind about Amy. Would he hurt her? Had he hurt her? She wanted to run to the other room and snatch her baby from the crib but she couldn't draw attention to the sleeping infant.
