baby-sitting demons
Who: Angeline and Bubbles {NPC Jamie}
Where: Bubbles' "aunt's" trailer
When: Early evening
Warnings: Violence, blood demonic shepherd

Bubbles wasn't in a very good mood. She'd been in one for the past few days, but she didn't like it anymore because it hadn't been real. It had been disgusting. Like she actually belonged to these people who were trying to claim her! She wasn't a human like them. They were toys, a useful decoration that kept society off her damn back. "People talk about equal rights," she grumbled as she finished cutting to pieces the frilly piece of silk her "aunt" had gotten her yesterday when they'd gone to the mall like a mother and daughter pair. Disgusting. "Yet where are the rights for demons who look like little girls, huh? Nooooooooooooo, those will neeeeeeever happen." She was older than every person in her school for the love of the devil. Why was she pretending to have to listen to them and their rules? Oh right, because demons were bad and they wouldn't want to let one run around. An angel would probably try to decapitate her.

Again.

Because that had almost happened before. Bubbles still remembered the rabid rottweiler that had stopped it, too. He'd been a good dog. She needed another dog like that. And she'd let it tear--

"Bubbles?"

The small demon turned, eyes narrowed in a glare. "What?" After that demeaning display over the past few days she wasn't in the mood to be nice or play friendly. She was very, very tired of her facade and so help her if she felt like someone was treating her like a child.

Her aunt winced, trying not to look at the destroyed dress. Her eyes were already a little unfocused so clearly she'd been hitting the bottle early. "Umm... the baby-sitter's here. That girl whose number you gave us. So we're leaving and we'll be back some time tonight." Bubbles had dropped the dress and zoomed right past her, beaming from ear to ear when she saw the redhead at the door.

"Angeline! I was hoping it'd be you!" She even played a little girl for a second and bounced over to hug her. Sure, she did it because Angeline was a were and she loved stirring them up, but she still did it. "You guys can go now, we'll be fine."

Her uncle was already at the door, holding it open, and her aunt hesitated a moment. "We love you."

Bubbles shook her head. "I don't. Bye!" She waited until the door closed to spin back around. "Sooooooooooooooooooooo Angeline. That's a mouthful of a name, don't you have a nickname?"

Ordinarily, Angeline would refuse to even step foot in the trailer park, much less work for someone - anyone - who lived there. But then, there was nothing ordinary about the little girl she had met at the park on a day only slightly less miserable than today had been. Only when she had explained to her parents who this little girl appeared to be (quite certainly was) did they even let her accept the position. Offer, rather. After the extraordinarily strange sensation of waking up with memories she did not have when she had one to bed - but knew she had lost, courtesy of her new friend Esmi - spending some quality time with a literal demon child seemed like perfection to Angeline.

Having been nothing but polite to Bubbles' hopeless carers, Angeline was beginning to feel the mediocrity weighing on her shoulders. Of course the cheerfulness with which she was greeted by the "little girl" immediately put a shiny smile on the girl's face, though the hug...that was strange. Still. If a demon hugged you, you hugged back, dammit. "Hello, Bubbles!"

The little girl was unceremonious about shooing the aunt and uncle away, which amused Angeline endlessly. She waved at them, a placid smile on her face. "Goodnight, have fun!" All those niceties, just to be safe. Once they were gone and Bubbles turned back around to her, Angeline lowered her head, scoffing. "No. Not any I approve of, anyway. I suppose if you must, Angie is the obvious choice."

"Angie," Bubbles declared. "I'll call you Angie. It's easier." And Bubbles always went with what was easiest. She was, after all, just a little girl and little girls got away with things that big ones didn't. Even if she was actually a fair bit older than Angeline. Older, more experienced and yet she was the one in elementary school with the kids who thought it was an accomplishment when they remembered how to do their times tables. So help her if Angeline was one of those babysitters who had brought along a play-backpack or whatever it was they called it full of kid games. She was in the right sort of mood where she'd shove the crayons down her throat, demonic-were or not. Snacks would be okay.

She especially liked gummy bears.

Bubbles locked her hands behind her waist and rocked forwards and backwards on her heels a few times, studying Angeline before she finally spoke again. "Angie, I'm glad you came. I need to do something or else I'm gonna go find a really big dog and set it loose on my so-called guardians." The little girl lisp had been dropped. Actually, had she been using it at all? Maybe that was why her aunt was so twitchy today. "I was playing happy family with them and I think the only way to wash the feel of it off is with blood." She tilted her head to the side. "Makes sense, right? Wash off the sickly-sweet with the sticky sweet." Her giggle still sounded like it belonged to a little girl.

With a pained expression, Angeline sighed heavily. One mustn't deny the demon, but that name would be nails on chalkboard every time. Small price to pay for whatever else she might gain? Angeline sure hoped so. She hadn't brought a thing suitable for children in her bag, didn't think she'd need to. Bubbles probably had enough, not to mention she wasn't exactly a child to begin with. And she had no snacks in her purse either. Angeline didn't snack, for crying out loud.

She watched the 'kid' rock on her heels, almost exactly like a child would do - except everything Bubbles did put Angeline on guard as much as it intrigued her. She smiled at hearing her presence was welcomed, even giggled at the prospect of Bubbles setting a large dog loose on her guardians. "Ah, you were a victim of whatever ridiculous Pleasantville curse was going around the last few days? Me too." Angeline rolled her eyes, visibly annoyed. "If I find whoever did that I won't use a dog I'll do it myself." She muttered.

Shrugging, Angeline nodded. "Yes, it does." She shuddered at the giggle anyway. "So what did you have in mind exactly?" And can I not be the victim please, please, I have so much to live for.

Now, had Bubbles known that Angeline didn't like being called Angie... well, then she'd have made sure to do it more often because it was funny to irritate were's. her very presence could be enough to put them on-edge and way more so if she was trying, but that didn't mean she didn't like using the typical mundane little tricks like straight out irritation. She actually found that it could be quite refreshing! But she didn't know that so she'd just do it a normal amount unless something gave her a reason to up the ante. "Yes, that. Stupid fae." People had speculated it was them on the TV and she wasn't going to disagree. Seemed just like the sort of the thing that the tricky folk would get up to if they didn't have anything else to do. Like impale themselves on large iron spikes.

Awh, had she made Angeline a little uncomfortable with the giggle? Good. "Not sure yet, I've been busy today with school and destroying the little girl wardrobe my aunt bought me. Frilly dresses, Angie, frilly dresses. I haven't worn those since I acted in those black-and-white movies!" She didn't have any worries at all about the redhead flaunting who she was to the public, just like she didn't worry about Amanda doing it. She'd have to come after them if they did and who wanted that? "Do you mind the rain? Because if you don't want to get wet, I'll just have to play with you. Which..." She flashed her best grin and went up on her tiptoes. "I'm fine with, but you might want to be able to walk tomorrow so... ladies choice!"

Tilting her head down and to the side, Angeline arched an eyebrow at Bubbles. "Stupid load of fluttery winged...ugh." Little tantrum over with, Angeline shrugged off her raincoat, looking around for a coat-rack and, sighing, dropping it on the pseudo-couch. She dropped her purse onto it after. A giggle escaped her at Bubbles' outrage about frilly dresses. "Awww, she probably thinks it's what someone who looks like you do should wear. How did she not have a breakdown as you destroyed them?" Angeline wasn't at all thinking about ratting Bubbles out to anyone. She liked knowing something others didn't - though her parents did, now, but on their life and interests they would never let it slip - and she was hoping to get something out of this, so there was no reason to betray the demon's trust. And, of course, her life. She liked that, too.

Angeline was about to say that she did very much mind the rain, ask Bubbles to take a look at what she was wearing, but then Bubbles mentioned having to play with her if they stayed in, so Angeline gracefully bent down and pulled the raincoat from under her purse. "I don't mind it at all!" She said, cheerfully. She had to work on Bubbles not being fine with playing with her, some day. "Let's play in the rain!"

"She was drinking, that's how she didn't have a breakdown. She's always drinking ever since my last parents died." That she had flayed them was left out, conveniently. She could use that later if she needed a scare factor. Nobody liked the idea of the cute little girl -- demon or not -- flaying the skin off adults. She did paint a really good mental image of it! Just she couldn't tell anyone because it was supposed to have been demons... sigh.

Bubbles smile brightened. "Oh good, I was hoping you'd say that. I don't want to ruin your nice clothes." She didn't give a damn about Angeline's nice clothes, or that blood was hard to get out of the rug, she just didn't really want to ruin her. Good demonic-blooded baby-sitter's were hard to come by! Angeline didn't have to know that, though, because then she might not believe her if she made a threat and if she didn't believe her then Bubbles would need to carry it through and she'd be out a baby-sitter. Unlike Angeline, Bubbles didn't bother with a dress before she bounded out into the rain. "Hmmmm," she tapped a finger on her lips as she looked around. No one was really out. "Oh! I know! The Parker's just got a new puppy! Let's go and play with them!" Beaming, she grabbed Angeline's hand and tugged her along to one of the almost-identical trailers in the line.

"Jamie!" she called as she knocked on the door. Which took too long to open, but eventually it did and a little girl around her own age peered at them. "Hi Jamie, I wanted to show my baby-sitter your new puppy. Ypu were talking about him at school and I want to see." People in this place really needed to learn to not get new pets.

"Oh, uhh... I guess... mom's not here..."

"That's okay, I have Angie!" Bubbles shouldered the girl aside and bounced in, water dripping off onto the carpet. "C'mon Angie, we're going to play with a puppy." Had Jamie just whimpered?

"Ohhhhh," Angeline nodded. She remembered Bubbles' aunt crying copiously into a self-help book when they had met, and finding her pathetic even then. Apparently, that was a recurring theme. A smile that she hoped wasn't one of relief washed over Angeline's features now that playing with her wasn't on the table anymore. For now, at least.

Once they made their way outside Angeline pulled her raincoat tighter around herself, sighing as her hair was ruined by the rain. All for a good cause, she reminded herself. Bubbles seemed to have gotten an idea, and so she bounded after the 'child', grinning. After Bubbles knocked, calling the neighbor's name, Angeline furrowed her brow. "Bubbles I understand you want to play and I'm delighted, but none of this can come back to me. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you'll be out a babysitter." She was all for some bloody fun but she didn't want to risk her position or her family's for it. Not when she had other ways to have fun behind closed doors, where no one would ever find out.

Waving at the child when she opened the door, Angeline gave the little girl her most harmless smile. "Please? I love puppies!" But that wasn't necessary as Bubbles effectively ignored the other kid's hesitance and walked right into the trailer. Angeline followed, ignoring the child's whimper - which yes, she had just heard. "Here puppy!"

The sound of paws racing along the floor became louder and soon an adorable little mutt came into view. "Awwwww!" It looked disgusting.

"Don't be such a worry-wort, Angie," Bubbles sneered. "It never comes back to me, does it?" No. And the few times that it had had been so well covered up that it didn't even matter. Bubbles had to maintain her little-girl facade if she wanted to play in the real world and she just wasn't ready to go into seclusion yet. So she did things carefully and she did them where adults -- or at least adults she couldn't scare to death -- wouldn't see. Kids didn't count. Kids like Jamie especially, who were just human after all and couldn't fight back except with those weak little hands and teeth that could hardly do any good at all.

Bubbles, in short, wasn't worried.

Bubbles beamed at the puppy who came skittering around the corner. It was some sort of mix, she thought a beagle with a terrier maybe, and it was absolutely precious. Let it never be said that Bubbles didn't appreciate a cute puppy, because she really did. Immediately she was on the floor with her arms held out for the puppy to crash into. Which it decided it didn't want to do a second later, but the little blonde didn't care. She was petting the puppy and debating just when she wanted to let her Touch go into effect. "So what's his name, Jamie?"

Jamie was standing there with a horrified look on her face. "Mom named her B-b-bella." Oh that's right, Jamie had been one of the kids who had been there that time with the kitten. No wonder she looked like she was going to wet herself. "She's really sweet."

"I bet she pisses on the carpet and chews up your shoes, that's what I bet she does," Bubbles countered, still petting the dog. Only now she was starting to growl, quietly, but deep in her throat. The series kind of growl. Oops, had Bubbles done it already? Damn, she always got so excited and let go early. "Here Angie!" Bubbles bounced to her feet and held the puppy out. "Hold Bella." It was almost a dare to see if the were would do it or not.

"I don't know that, you've never told me. For all I know there is one pile of bodies to be solely attributed to you covering your tracks." Angeline replied evenly. But, she supposed if the demon wasn't worried then neither was she. For now. Maybe a little.

The puppy was, indeed, adorable. If not eerie and disturbing she would even find the moment between it and Bubbles endearing. As it was she stood off to the side, arms crossed in front of her chest, hoping that the girl didn't have a collapse right there next to her. "Bella! Awww. Means beautiful in Italian, did you know?" She told the girl pleasantly. Jamie only looked at her like she was about to piss herself. Which was fitting, given what Bubbles was saying.

Angeline heard the growl immediately, her were senses helping it along. She eyed Bubbles, eyebrows raised in question. When Bubbles handed the dog to her Angeline almost stepped back and away, but at the last second found it in herself to stay put. If it bit her, it was going to crash against the wall and Angeline would be healed in a day or two - so, she wasn't scared. She picked up the puppy with her thumbs under its arms, looking at it with the expression of one who wasn't sure whether to give into the cuteness, or the smell. "Hi Bella!" It growled, a little louder now. Her problem wasn't with dogs, but with cats and occasionally snakes, so Angeline merely narrowed her eyes. "Bad puppy." She said in a monotone, eyeing Bubbles briefly before holding the puppy with one arm and rubbing its belly with the other. It did not stop growling. The kid next to her looked like all blood had been drained from her face.

"She doesn't do this with us, maybe you should hand her to me." Said Jamie. Angeline smirked darkly, looking to Bubbles for some sort of guidance. Should she, or should she not?

"Bad puppy!" Bubbles echoed, delighted that Angeline had taken Bella from her. She was a little less delighted that the puppy didn't bite her, but hey, a girl couldn't have everything she wanted. At least she was growling and Jamie wasn't crying.

Yet.

They could fix that and Bella was the perfect way to do it.

Bubbles was surprised that Jamie had the nerve to open her mouth and speak. Someone had found herself a little speck of a backbone somewhere and she wasn't sure she liked it. So yeah, she'd let the girl hold the puppy. "Yeah give her to her, see if Bella likes her better." Jamie snatched the puppy up and buried her face in the fur. That was mistake number three. One had been letting her in the house and two had been letting her have the puppy. "Go on, Bella," Bubbles encouraged. "Bite."

And Bella's sharp little puppy teeth dug into Jamie's shoulder. The girl gave a shocked scream and Bubbles laughed as Bella growled and savaged her shoulder. "See Angie, isn't this fun?"

Some form of butterflies fluttered in Angeline's stomach as she watched the little girl bury her face in the progressively more rabid puppy. Angeline had never really seen Bubbles in action, nor was she quite sure of how her powers worked. When she issued her command and the dog obeyed, burying its teeth into her owner's shoulder, Angeline gasped with delight, the corners of her mouth stretching up into a smile.

The little girl's screaming was like music to Angeline's ears, somehow. When Bubbles asked something of Angeline she didn't reply right away, eyes transfixed on the struggle between rabid puppy and terrified child. The puppy was winning - because the little girl didn't want to do what needed to be done and hurt the puppy enough that it would consider letting go. Pretty soon, Jamie was on the floor, bleeding profusely from a gash that the puppy only gored further.

It wasn't as much fun as when she was doing the torturing and causing the pain, but it was still leagues better than whatever the other mindless drones society considered "her peers" would be doing at this time. So, Angeline finally nodded.
