i don't have it Who: Kristen Where: Nikita's house When: Morning
There was something important about the cross.
Kristen knew that she didn't have the right to be going through her mom's drawers, but she couldn't help herself. There was something important about the cross and she'd figure out what it was if she could touch it. She had to touch it. She'd seen it in her dreams again last night, hanging around her mom's neck, but she had woken up with an uneasy feeling because despite what her dreams said, she didn't wear it anymore. She hadn't seen her wearing it for days and it was strange. It was very strange. Her dreams had been strange too, but Kristen was used to that. So, once she had gotten dressed for school and before anyone had seen her, she'd gone up to her mom's room. Only it wasn't her mom's room, because she shared with Nikita just down the hall where she could hear voices coming from. But all of her stuff was in here. Kristen didn't understand it, but she just went with it because she already had one strange thing on her mind that she needed to get off.
It didn't take her very long to find the cross, though it wasn't in the jewelry box. It was buried in a drawer, wrapped up so that it didn't get touched on accident. But Kristen could touch it and she did, sliding the links through her fingers and running a nail over the intricate designs of the cross. 'It's a family heirloom, Kris.' Who had said that to her? Kristen stood very still as it came to her. Missy had said that to her, when she had been a lot smaller and playing with it while she wore it, and there had been a smiling woman whose lap she had been sitting in. A smiling woman who smelled like jasmine and rain. Kristen's heart lurched and she sat down on the floor, tears suddenly in her eyes. Mum, that was mum. Missy was not her mother, Missy was her sister and the one who was taking care of her because... because...
They said it was a gas leak.
Missy said it was vampires.
Missy said that we kill vampires.
Missy is a vampire.
Kristen dropped the silver necklace into her lap so she could press her hands over her ears to try and stop the thoughts. But they were coming, like a little wave, and she kept seeing and thinking all of these things that she just didn't want. She liked the happy family they had. She liked having Silvia for a sister and Missy for a mom and Nikita for a step-mom, but she didn't really like Katia and now she didn't have to... but she'd liked thinking that it was true. It'd been happier. They'd all been so happy and it wasn't even real!
Kristen didn't have a mom, much less two, and she didn't have a sister her age either. All that she had was Missy, and sometimes she didn't even think she had that. She clutched the necklace to her mouth as she rocked back and forth, crying. Missy was a vampire hunter who'd been turned into a vampire, but she was dating a vampire too and... and... was it all going to stop? Was she going to kill her, too? Kristen didn't want her to, she liked Nikita! She clutched her knees tighter and the tears fell faster and harder. She stayed that way until Annie came to find her for school.
But she'd rather be at school because she didn't want to see what happened when Missy and Nikita remembered what she had.
