“Oh my God, I wasn’t calling your ‘abilities’ odd. I was calling the sensation odd. I know your abilities just fine. But hello, first time in a tub for both of us. It’s going to be a little off, isn’t it?” She shook her head, completely disbelieving this conversation. This was ridiculous. His ego apparently bruised like a peach. She climbed out of the tub, crossing her arms in front of her stomach and almost visibly folding inward like she was trying to look small.
He sighed, reaching down to pull the condom off and climbing out of the tub to drop it into the waste bin. "Whatever." he muttered, snatching his towel up from where he'd dropped it and drying himself off. "This was a stupid idea." Evan mumbled to himself as he wrapped the towel around his middle.
Dorcas felt awful for even speaking up. Clearly she was supposed to lie and say everything was alright when it wasn’t. And she couldn’t do that. And decided to say so, “I can’t just say that something is bloody perfect when it’s not, Evan... Something just felt... off, alright? I’m sorry that I couldn’t just lie about it and keep your ego in tact.” She did not go to fetch a towel. Instead she just left the bathroom to go find her clothes. Yes, she was planning on leaving again even though she was completely wrung out emotionally and tired and it was probably dangerous for her to drive in such a state.
He sighed and reached out to take her arm. "You can't run away every damn time I hurt your feelings." Evan told her, pulling her back towards him. "Why do you do that? We argue, you go and leave the house? What the fuck?"
“Some books say it’s better to remove yourself from an uncomfortable situation and clear your head before proceeding...” But as she had let herself be pulled back towards him, she clearly didn’t want to leave exactly.
Evan sighed again and put his arms around her. "Do you have to have some book reference for everything?" he asked. "Sometimes books just don't explain everything. You can't explain me with a book, alright? You can't resolve every fight by walking away. When you try it just makes me more aggravated."
