wind me up & watch me go Who: Angeline and Esmeralda Where: SOHS history class When: Second period
"This is just getting ridiculous," Esmeralda muttered under her breath. She was not listening to the teacher - a blonde lady, Banks or something - but rather flipping through the history text book that she had been given yesterday. What was wrong with these people?? The only mention they had of witches anywhere in here was that ridiculous mess of Salem. What sort of history book skimmed over all of the amazing things that witches had done for this country and focused on whatever-the-fuck Lincoln might have been? And the South had a far richer history than they were making it out to be; it was not all about slaves and cotton and rising against the North, they had some amazingly long-lived, pure, born witch families! But they had not a word about them or all of the things that they had done for places like Savannah or Little Rock. Esmeralda could have filled a book all on her own with all of the things that these silly little humans did not know, or knew wrong. Had the Light of May not happened? Did they not know that they needed to go through all of these ridiculous texts and fix them now that they had all of the information? It needed to be done. Like it was not bad enough that it was cold here, they had to be undereducated too?
Esmeralda looked up from her intense study of the incorrect book and fixed a narrow-eyed glare on the teacher, wondering if she could catch fire from her stare alone. I can't curse her. Well, it was not that she could not curse her. It was more that that was how she had gotten kicked out of her last school, and she at least wanted to have some variety so her mother did not repeat the same tangent when she called. Variety, Esmeralda needed to practice variety. So blood instead of black this time. That's variety enough isn't is? She was just about to drag her ring across her palm when she realized that the girl in the next aisle over was looking at her. She had not realized that she had continued to mutter while she thought, about how witches were not featured prominently enough and how this was going to drive her insane. Esmeralda paused and arched an eyebrow. "Yes? Can I help you?"
