around & around without any cares
Who: Nico and Zoie
Where: Local playground
When: Afternoon
Despite her broken arm, Zoie had been determined to go out today and she had been determined also that she was going to do it alone. Nora had her own things to do and did not need to be bothered by her sister's random little whims. Today's was one that she definitely did not think Nora would appreciate. Something told her that no one who knew her would likely appreciate it, but she had no idea why that was. Sure she had a broken arm, but there were plenty of things that she could do on a playground with just one arm. And it was not like the rest of her was broken! The bruises on her face made her look like she had come out the wrong end of a boxing match, yes, and her back was sore... but her legs were not broken, which meant that she could walk and being able to walk meant that she could play at the playground. There was something about the playground that just called out to her; like something that she had always wanted to do but had never been able to. That was just silly of course, what sort of person made it to her age without ever playing on a playground? All kids ran around going down the slides, swinging on swings, climbing the monkey bars... okay, so she could hardly manage the monkey bars with her arm like this, but the rest! She was going to be able to do the rest.
She was still curious why her arm was in a cast. She was also curious why she had a medical alert bracelet on her unbroken arm and another one dangling on a pendant about her neck. That one was at least accompanied by a clock and key charm so it did not look as medical... but all of those things combined told her that maybe there was a reason she kept feeling like people might not want her wandering around. I could figure it out, Zoie realized as she was walking down the street. It's on the bracelet. But she would rather keep her sleeve tugged down over it and pretend it was not there. She felt fine. Her face was a little sore, sure, but what else could she expect? Honestly, she was more curious about why she had bruises on her face than why she might have a familiarity with the area hospitals. The only person she had been around in the past few days was Nora and she just knew that her sister would cut her own arm off before she hit her. Nora probably also would have handcuffed her to the bed if she had known that Zoie was going to the playground, but what she did not know could not hurt her, right?
Zoie shrugged all the thoughts off as easily as she would have changed her shirt when she saw the playground. There was a pair of kids over on the seesaw so she avoided that and went straight to the slide. She was getting odd looks from the mom of the kids, but she just smiled and waved before sending herself sliding down it, laughing like a kid when she did. Now, though she was sure that she must have done this before because everyone did, it felt like the very first time she had ever gone down a slide on her own - and the second time was even better. Now she just had to wrestle her way onto a swing and get that going because oh was that ever fun! "It feels like flying!" she said to herself, utterly delighted.
