it's good to ask for help!
Who: Savvy and Roxy
Where: Bits and Bytes
When: Afternoon
There were many things that Roxy did surprisingly well. While she rarely had an opportunity to surf these days, her snowboarding skills were incredibly impressive, at least according to the boys that worked on the mountain and assumed that she had absolutely no talent whatsoever. She’d even managed to win more street races than anyone thought her possible of. The point was that Roxy had a surprising number of skills under her belt. Computer repair, however, was not one of them. She wasn’t a complete idiot where technology was concerned. Whenever her laptop started acting finicky, she knew how to run a simple virus check and, just like that -- problem solved! But Roxy’s computer wasn’t just acting out. It was possessed! First it took twenty minutes for the laptop to boot up. Once it was on and she was able to load her browser, every new tab she opened prompted a pop-up ad. Her flash player no longer worked and trying to play her music? Well, there was usually a loud screeching sound before she turned it off completely for fear of her speakers exploding and becoming useless. Just when she thought that things couldn’t get any worse, a new symptom would arise.
It was difficult for her to ask for help when she needed it, but even she had to admit that this problem fell outside her realm of capabilities. So she packed up her laptop (and every accessory that went with it, just to be safe) and headed to the repair store in town. She’d never been inside a computer repair store before, so she wasn’t altogether certain what to expect. Roxy had assumed that there wouldn’t be that many people inside. She was very wrong about that. There were no less than ten people packed into the shop, and only one clerk behind the checkout desk that she could see. Surely there had to be more than one person in here helping all these people? Roxy decided to stick to the outside periphery of the room. She didn’t really have anywhere to go, so she was happy waiting until everyone cleared out. With her laptop hanging from the bag on her shoulder, Roxy amused herself with looking at the accessories, namely the colorful sleeves.
She finally reached the opposite side of the room from where she had entered. From a different vantage point, she turned to look over the room once again. There were people of all ages and varying states of confusion standing near her. There was only one other in the room, aside from the man helping people at the counter, who looked absolutely at peace inside the shop. Her comfortability lead Roxy to believe that this was the additional help that she knew had to be working here. “Excuse me,” she asked tentatively as she approached the redhead. “Would you mind taking a look at my computer? I mean, that is, if you’re not busy with someone else.” Roxy didn’t want to be rude and steal someone else’s place in line, but… why shouldn’t she take advantage of finding the only other employee in the room?
