Farren was an odd duck from an odd family. Another wolf pack might accuse the Summers pack of being soft, of being too human. They had no Omega, nor did they particularly pressure a viable female to mate when she so vehemently protested. Oh sure, August set her up on more blind dates than any one person ought to go on and Julian was always making some sort of move, but her family accepted (even if they didn't understand it) the fact that she was not ready to take a mate. Some might say she was too picky. Others might say that she was wound up too tight and that she needed to get laid. She wasn't an idiot; she knew that someday she might run into someone that she didn't totally hate. Just not now. No matter how much the inner wolf protested. Most women had a biological clock, but Farren had a snarling beast inside. She contented herself with knowing just how protective she was when it came to the rest of the pack... and that included Sam now, didn't it?
Maybe they could help him enough to stop being so meek and submissive. He didn't need to come right out and try to be an alpha, but he could learn to stand up for himself. At least, that's what Farren wanted to teach him. She couldn't stand to see someone roll over without a fight and it normally angered her to see a wolf act in such a way. She felt sorry for Sam and she supposed her reluctance to be angry with him came from thinking that maybe he just didn't know any better. Well, that and the fact that she figured Jo had a soft spot for him. And for now, if helping him meant telling him he could do things, ordering him to take something for himself. then so be it. She certainly wasn't above it.
"Remember," she instructed. "No sharing." Not that she cared, truly. If he didn't share, then hey, he had something that was his very own. And if he did? Well, then that just meant that he wasn't obeying her and she'd give him props for that. Boy needed to learn how to make his own decisions and do things because he wanted to and not because he was commanded. All in all, she thought her plan was pretty clever. Farren waited for Sam to accept the snacks before she began to move on. She kept her pace slow and walked next to the cart. For a long moment a silence wore between them. She felt as though she should say something to make him feel more at ease. What would Jo say? Hell, what would anyone nice say? How did people do this getting to know someone thing without small talk? So she blurted the first thing out she could think of, and while the only bite to it was her typical tone, her curiosity was apparent. "Are you miserable?"
"Not just here with me. I mean with the rest of the pack."
