The smile she was wearing intensified when the man looked up and greeted her with one of his own. Kammie couldn't know for sure if he was amused at by her question or at the self-consciousness of his actions, but she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't mocking her. She watched the man with genuine intrigue as he explained himself. Her mind was a flutter of questions and she found herself momentarily lost as to which ones to ask first. Was it because he was concerned about his diet? Maybe it was an environmental thing? Perhaps he was trying to transition to vegetarianism and was struggling with giving up meat altogether? Ultimately, the answers to any of these questions were none of her business, but Kammie considered her curiosity to be nothing but innocent, if not friendly. "That's very admirable, again, because so few people tend to enjoy the little things in life."
Sometimes when she was faced with making a decision, she jumped in headfirst to save herself from the excruciating back and forth that always came with choosing. It was only when the circumstances were as far from serious as they could possibly be, like now, when she indulged herself. And that was why she swept up her mat and menu, crossed over the walking space, and slid into the boot seat across from the stranger. "Kammie," she offered, extending her hand over the man's burger in greeting. The thought never occurred to her that she was interrupting his lunch, or that she had rudely invited herself to join his meal when he might have preferred to be alone. Being of air often meant that her mind could sometimes be consumed by a single concept once it decided to land on something.
"So, what exactly are you rewarding yourself for, if you don’t mind my asking.” Kammie propped her chin on her hand and offered the stranger a deeper smile.
