"You're pretty high up, that's impressive." She told him after a giggle at how literally he had taken her question. Not that Jo had previously thought Sam couldn't climb a tree - she had never really considered Sam's talent in that regard one way or another. Though, he was a were with were strength and were stamina after all, and wolves could be pretty limber and climb quite well even if it did not really come so naturally as, say, cats. Or, if you were feeling humorous about it, goats. Those mountain goats she had seen on TV seemed expert at climbing and perching up at the weirdest places (including tree branches) so it stood to reason that if were-goats existed (which Jo thought they had to) they would be good at it. As the thought was getting further and further away from her Jo shielded her eyes from the sun with her hand and focused her gaze on Sam, noticing his book. "Seems like a pretty cool place to read."
Looking back at her notebook and coffee, then up at Sam again, Jo shook her head. As if she would demand him to climb down and keep her company like he was some kind of lady-in-waiting. Which he wasn't, because neither was he a lady nor did Jo needed anyone to 'wait' on her. Though she would never deny herself the pleasure of Sam's company, if and only if he wanted to give it. "Need? Nah. I was just messing with you. I mean it's been a while since anyone's climbed up that tree, is all. I hope I didn't disturb you! I was about to organize some kind of schedule for what I need to do to keep up with class. I'm going back in full next week, now that Lotti and Kyle are back." Belatedly, Jo realized this was all information Sam neither needed nor had asked for. And if she hadn't disturbed him before, she probably was now. She stepped away from the tree, running her fingers through the mess of tousled short hair over her forehead. "So I'll just, um, go sit over there, quietly. Oh! Let me know if you want music, I'll unplug my earbuds from my phone." She smiled and backed away a few more steps.
Man, now she really wanted to see if she could still climb that tree in four swift movements like she used to as a pre-teen. Initial jump, grab branch on the left, carve foot on the right, grab branch directly above and pull, sit. The subsequent growth of certain body parts upset her balance some, and she had taken up other activities in the meantime, but surely she was still athletic enough. Except, she kept reminding herself, she had things to sort out and there was a Sam up there who probably didn't want his space invaded. And Jo had done more than enough on that department. So, Jo sat down instead, shooting Sam a smile as she opened her notebook.
