"Yeah." he nodded. "Of course I do." He waited for a moment or two until he thought she'd moved the phone to her stomach before he started to talk to the kids.
"Hey, babies." he said first, not really caring if he was talking to her stomach. He was pretty convinced they could hear him. "Try not to keep Mama up all night. She needs some sleep. I'll be back home tomorrow so take care of her til then for me." He paused for a half second, swallowing down the lump in his throat. "I love you guys, you know that." At least he hoped they did.
Now if the gods were on his side, he wouldn't die in a fiery plane crash.
