People were finally free from the high school, which meant her grandmother was back home. She was safe, if not very sound, and that was really all that mattered. Harper didn't understand what the hell had happened, why people were trapped in the first place, but she was glad to have her grandmother back. Finding answers really wasn't at the top of her list of things to do. Lady Vi was home and that meant all was right with the world.
Except, it wasn't. Not exactly.
The last time she had spent time with Josh was when they traveled together to visit Zoie in the hospital. Sure, they had put on pleasant faces for the sake of their mutual friend, but she sensed the tension that was there. Things were awkward again. But instead of her jumping to the 'God, I hate your guts,' phase, she was just stuck in this limbo of wondering just what the hell was going on. Hadn't he kissed her? So then, why was he acting so standoffish. She couldn't say that he was outright avoiding her, but it seemed that when he did come in for his usual orders of sweets, she was too busy with other customers to really have a conversation with him. She tried to tell herself he wasn't doing it on purpose and he was probably just as busy next door as she was in the bakery, but it seemed a little too convenient for the psychic.
Not that Harper really wanted to talk about what happened. She had no idea how to even absorb the kiss, let alone how she might feel about it. Of course, feelings were brushed to the side because any bubbling butterflies were twenty shades of wrong and she couldn't afford to let them flourish. Which was why she was thankful for the lull in business today. It gave her a chance to really focus on her baking and push her thoughts off to the side. The fact that Kahlan was there helped too; the other presence made her extra aware of what she was doing. So when she spun around to reach for her bag of frosting, she noticed her skirt twirling and brushing against the other blonde's knees.
"Sorry," She offered the Australian a pleasant smile. Harper was quiet for a minute, concentrating on decorating her tray of strawberry cupcakes. Finally, she asked a question that might have been considered small talk. As it left her lips, she realized that she didn't know enough about Kahlan and her life. What better time than while baking? "How's your sister?"
