For a moment Jason almost smiled at the way Zelie wrapped her arm around her sister before he turned his attention back to the group as a whole. Several of them were still uneasy, fidgeting restlessly and awkwardly, and once again it struck him just how young they all were. All of them. At twenty-five he was the oldest of the group and suddenly, standing there in front of them, that didn't seem all that old. Devon had been several years his senior, so much more experienced, and not for the first time Jason remembered just how different they were, just how much better suited to all this the older wolf had been.
God. What had he been thinking making Jason his Beta? Succeeding someone as composed and collected as Devon was borderline ridiculous, almost a cruel joke, but now wasn't the time to show anything like that. Not here. Not now. Not in front of the whole pack.
"You can go into your cages when you're ready but we have a little bit of time if you don't want to." He wasn't going to force any of them into confined spaces before they absolutely had to take that step, that wouldn't be fair and he would lay anyone else flat on their back for trying to do the same to him. "If there's anything you've forgotten now's the time to get it. You won't get another chance." Some of the pack liked to have personal objects nearby, within reach when the sun rose the next morning and they returned to themselves. Jason wasn't one of those few but he understood it in the others.
