Full moons meant that Julian took the day off. Because the pack made a big deal about the full moon, he usually stuck around the house and tried to see if either Camilla or his own mother needed help putting food together for an entire pack of rabidly hungry wolves. Other women from the pack helped - and, shoot, a lot of the men, too - and Julian hadn't been needed this afternoon. He would be expected back in a reasonable amount of time to help set the food out before the moon came up, but he had plenty of time. Julian also usually transformed before the moon actually compelled him to. It was a control thing, his mother would say, which was exactly why he and his mother weren't speaking at the moment. At any rate, he had dropped some doughnuts off on Lux's desk at the police station with a note to call him if she needed a place to be safe for the full moon.
He'd come in to the Starbucks for a quick coffee and was distracted by someone singing in the cafe. She'd caught his eye and he'd placed his order real quick before heading over to look at her. Well, actually, more like to catch her scent. He'd gone to high school with both of the Lange girls and this one was the "evil twin" - so to speak. He hadn't been close to either of them, though one was definitely a little more sunshiney than the other. As evidenced by the snark in her voice when he lingered after everyone else stopped looking at the spectacle she was making.
"Good to know. Is there a sign-up sheet or something?" Julian asked, shrugging. He didn't know if she'd remember him. They hadn't exactly run in the same circles. He was too busy being your all-American jock to pay attention to anything that wasn't showering him with attention. Except for Sasha, of course, but he wasn't going to think about that. But Julian remembered people by smell, so it was probably easier for him to place faces than most. "Glad to see you finally washed your hair," seemed just a smidge too familiar so he bit his tongue.
