Zach honestly didn't know what he would do without Sampson, something which he was thinking about more and more recently, the Shepherd wasn't getting any younger and before too long Zach might have to face the harsh reality that he would be truly alone in a couple of years. He didn't say anything as the woman offered her had to Sampson, he knew the dog would be well behaved unless he sensed a threat and Zach didn't think this woman was a threat. He didn't think she was entirely human by her scent but she didn't strike him as being dangerous, he just hoped he wasn't wrong on that. "Yeah it's definitely ironic but really it's just annoying."
When she leaned in closer he resisted the urge to move back, something he wouldn't have been able to do without tipping himself out of the chair he was currently sat in anyway. The urge wasn't because she was unattractive or anything like that at all because she was attractive, he'd noticed as much as he noticed the beauty of any woman and it was that which caused him to want to move back. For some reason in his mind he saw being close to another woman as a betrayal against Victoria, it didn't matter that she'd been dead for years, his brain still saw it that way. "No clue, the best anyone's been able to tell me is some magic gone crazy but that's it." Her next words caused his own smile to falter, he hadn't been with another woman since the death of his wife and there was a part of him that never wanted to. He knew the woman didn't mean anything by the statement, she wasn't to know he had a dead wife and was still grieving like he lost her yesterday. "No," he said simply, his tone slightly flat. Zach always did his best to not let his emotions show but it was difficult when he felt like he'd just been kicked in the chest. He shifted the chair back and stood, Sampson following suit and standing beside him. "I'll just go see if it's safe to go inside," he said as a way of excusing himself from her company for a few seconds so he could compose himself again.
