Nick turned to face his sister again when she laughed, imagining the exasperation on his face to go right along with the sigh that slipped out of him as he reached up both hands to wipe it away as best as he could. The grogginess too, though Jenny's arrival had worked a number on that already. By that point he was more worried about his sister than he was about how much sleep he might get before his next shift and he wasn't about to let her change the subject either. Nick knew her better than that, he knew better than to let her get away with something like that. As close as they had been growing up he was more likely than anyone else to know when she was putting one of those tactics into play. They never had been able to pull the wool over one another's eyes. Even when he'd been seriously injured and ended up in the hospital she had known he wasn't telling her everything and if he hadn't made a point of telling her -- not asking her but telling her -- to leave it alone she wouldn't have given up on getting the answers she so desperately wanted.
His eyes narrowed when she gave her response and he felt them do so but there was a sincerity in her response that he couldn't ignore, he certainly couldn't deny it, and so for the time being he didn't see that he had much of a choice but to accept her explanation. If there was something more going on he would get it out of her sooner or later. Preferably sooner. He might have commented on it, though, if Major hadn't made a huff of a sound in their minds, voicing his disapproval of their new four-legged guest.
"I'm not in the market for a best friend. They're exhausting." His yellow eyes had narrowed at the iguana in front of him and his tail swished and twitched against the floor before he looked up towards the two elementals. "Tell him to keep off my beds and we won't have a problem." With that the cat stood from the floor and sauntered off back through to the bedroom, leaving Nick to roll his eyes and heave another sigh. With a sort of apologetic smile he turned once again to regard his sister, just as she asked him what she did.
"A room-mate?" he asked, amused by the idea and while not all that surprised still feeling a little caught off guard. The fact that Jenny had brought her stuff with her said a lot, whether or not she realised as much, and Nick shook his head with a smile. "You know I'm not going to say no. You knew that before you asked." And he was pretty sure he'd mentioned to her in at least one of their more recent conversations that he had a spare room. Nick had practically invited her, in a way, even if it was without realising.
