The answer was not many. An iguana wasn't even that typical a pet, unlike a cat, but they couldn't choose their familiars. It was the other way around. Nick settled for the uniqueness of Major's personality when it came to standing out from the crowd, and though a cat wasn't quite as unusual as an iguana he still boosted his powers and kept him from getting lonely, if nothing else. True, they bickered more often than they agreed on anything but that didn't mean they weren't bonded. Before he could tell her that he really was surprised -- because he'd actually forgotten the conversation he'd had with their mother on the subject given everything that was going on -- when she asked him that and he had to look down at himself.
That was when Major appeared, padding out of the bedroom with his tail swishing in that somewhat disgruntled fashion that was one of his trademarks. "He's working the night shift. He's only been in bed for an hour." Major decided to sit down in the middle of the floor in clear view of both elementals. "Give or take." The cat blinked slowly and looked up at the -- human-shaped -- new arrival. "You must be Jennifer."
"You know she is, and it was more than an hour," Nick interjected, turning to wave a hand a little dismissively at his familiar.
"It was not. I was watching the clock."
"Why were you-- you know what? Never mind." It was about that time that Major noticed the very real iguana trekking across the floor, allowing Nick to turn his attention back to his sister. "Ignore him. I do most of the time." Reaching behind her he swung the door shut and it wasn't until he'd done that that he realised something was a little off. "Is everything okay?" he asked Jenny, his eyes narrowing a little. Something didn't feel right with her and if anyone would know that it was him.
