The first thing that came to Lux's mind when the young woman told her about the badge was that it had been lost, not that she had stolen it. Badges were lost quite a bit - usually not for good reasons, and definitely not without consequence. She smiled with encouragement as the young woman (who apparently couldn't or refused to talk) rummaged through her bag. When she held up the badge Lux leaned in to look at it and frowned upon reading the name. "Oh." Her smile disappeared. It had belonged to an officer who had disappeared in the river during the bridge mayhem. He was presumed dead, though the body had never been recovered. He had been called to the scene after the explosion, but from then on nobody could pinpoint his location or his movements. Everyone just presumed he had gone down in the aftermath and been...eaten, possibly. By demons, or merfolk, or maybe neither. It sent shivers down Lux's spine to think about it.
"It's okay." She told the young woman distractedly. "He was...he's gone. But thank you for handing this in." Lux attempted to smile up at the good mute citizen.
