The one thing that was impossible for Emilia to not notice about Nysa was just how quiet her mind was. When they were kids it had never been that way, and to an extent it had not really been noticeable until after... their first year at college. Of course Emilia had her suspicions as to why Nysa worked so very hard to keep her thoughts quiet from her, but she would never ask. Asking was like acknowledging and she... could be very, very bad at that. Instead of focusing on how she still only got little tidbits of thoughts, she actively listened to the ones she could hear. With almost everyone else she would try to avoid doing that, but Nysa was just different. "I know how you feel about them," she said in response. "But really, don't worry. I'm flushing them down the toilet when I get home and if he has a problem with it then we'll see how he likes being held against a door." Nysa was also included in the very, very limited number of people who ever heard Emilia speak about her abilities. Even now with the Light of May months in the past she still had trouble even grasping the idea of openly proclaiming what she could do. Calling attention to her abilities had only ever brought her pain in the past; her mind was not fully ready to accept that it would not consider to do so.
And her father would frown at her.
Emilia laughed when Nysa nudged her, all of the tension visibly draining out of her body. It was always this way with the blonde - no matter what sort of mood she had been in when she arrived, it got better within the span of hours if not minutes. "I can't help what's true! The glasses really just add to the whole nerdy look, it's perfect." She had been teasing the other woman for their entire lives and by now it came as naturally as breathing. The question about why she was dressed up earned a slight shrug, a bit of the tension returning to her shoulders. To distract herself from the unpleasant thoughts that had returned, Emilia started playing with the band of her watch. "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell..." Nysa had to know that today was her and Doran's anniversary. But why would they talk about that? "There were dinner reservations for two and now there's only me." Because like hell I will even pretend to have a pleasant meal with him when he did that. It was hard enough to do on a normal day! "But I like the place and I was thinking that if you didn't have any other plans-" Or if you do, I don't care, send her home where she belongs. "-that you'd be willing to come with me?" Emilia gave Nysa her most winning smile before she set her phone on the table. "And then we'd go over to Arwen's for a grown-up sleepover. Desi said she invited you, you probably haven't looked at your phone in awhile or you'd have seen for yourself." Emilia slid her hand over and brushed the tips of her fingers against the back of Nysa's hand. "You know you love sleepovers." Flashes through her mind of sleepovers they had had while under the same roof as her sisters and mother made Emilia glad that Nysa was not the telepath.
