Drumming his pen on the desk, Julian shook his head. "I don't know how the hiring process works on the other side. I'm a grunt on the best of days. So you're probably right about all that." While an intelligent person, Julian had the bare minimum as far as higher education and work experience went. Besides enlisting, he'd only held his firefighting position. He hadn't worked in high school as he'd been an athlete and helped his father with the house and the pack in what free time he'd had. And other than filling out some paperwork, he hadn't had much exposure to the HR department. Enlistment had been a completely different beast of an issue as far as Julian was concerned and logging complaints went up a very different chain of command. Not that Julian had complained about a thing in that time. If there had been anything he was good at, it was shutting his mind off and following orders.
Focusing back on the paperwork on his desk, Julian glanced over a couple of them and started trying to file them into different piles. Plausible leads and then complete nonsense. The issue was figuring out which was which. This wasn't exactly his forte. He had convinced himself that this was definitely magical, though motivation was still a huge question. What was there to gain from keeping the kids in the school when no one had yet released a ransom note of any sort. It left Julian considering that this was either a lesson or the people behind this were sick cretins who enjoyed watching others squirm. Either way, it wasn't a good thing.
