Jo did not notice the reaction her words had caused in Sam until he was reaching up to swipe his hand over his eyes; only then did she notice the slight redness on them, which left her with her mouth quite literally open in shock. His reaction and her hunch on why he was reacting in such a way to what she'd said along with what was going on around them made it so pretty soon there were tears in Jo's eyes at well. She was fragile, what could she do? Jo snivelled a little before wiping her own tears off her face, just in time to hear Sam speak in such a tiny voice she could barely hear him. He wasn't looking at her, but that was okay because Jo considered the fact that he liked her - therefore must trust her a little, maybe even consider her a friend - to be the best thing she'd heard all week. It was even better to hear him say it.
Between tears welling up on her eyes again Jo managed a smile and then a quiet chuckle. Then, some more snivelling. And then, finally, Jo spoke. "Good. Good, good." She look at him as if willing him to look up at her and see her thankful smile. "Thanks for saying that. And thanks for being here."
