As Missy spoke, Nikita remained deathly still, which was not so easy a task when all she wanted to do was lean into the other woman’s fingers combing through her hair. It was true. Even if Kristen liked her and she was good with kids, that reason alone was not enough for Missy to leave the most important person in her like with Nikita. Though she didn’t show it, Nikita cringed at the thought of the night she had called Missy. Intoxication was not a new state of being for her, but never before had she been sloppy enough to pour her heart out to someone, much less over the phone. She could blame it on the laced blood all she wanted to, but that didn’t completely excuse the phone call. And what of that night? Would Missy be so inclined to be this close to her had she not made the misstep of making the call? Such questions seemed trivial at the moment. That present was not this one and this was the only one that mattered. Wondering about what-ifs or could have beens were as pointless as her apologizing for saving Missy. It had all happened and Nikita wasn’t sorry for any of it.
Missy’s final words were so simple and yet, they struck such a strong cord with her. Their lives were so complicated; Nikita’s life was so complicated and she just wanted a break from it all. For the first time in months, she wanted to make a decision without worrying about all the lives it would (or would not) complicate. She needed to take a leap without considering where she would land. There was no more thought of ‘what could it hurt’ but only the acknowledgement that she wanted to just kiss Missy as well. Once again, Nikita did not respond with words. Though their bodies were already touching, she tightened her grip. Her hands moved up from her hips until they were clinging to Missy’s mid-back. The kiss she planted on the other woman’s lips was as far from hesitant as one could possibly get. One of her hands found Missy’s jaw, moving so that her palm cradled the base of the blonde’s skull while her thumb traced circles along her cheek.
They couldn’t remain in the kitchen forever. Not only did she not want to risk Katia coming home – or one of the girls coming down for a drink of water – but she had no desire to remain standing. Instead of ending the kiss by simply pulling back, Nikita slowed down its momentum until she was pecking Missy’s lips softly. She took a step back, but remained in contact with Missy. The hand that had been at her face trailed light fingertips down her neck, across her shoulder, and along her arm until it reached her hand. There was no tug as Nikita began to lead the way back to her bedroom; she trusted that this time, she wouldn’t have to insist that Missy follow along. She kept her eyes pointed forward, only looking back over her shoulder once or twice, as if to confirm that the other vampire was indeed still behind her.
