Besides Ryan, someone else greeted her on the inside and it wasn't a snake. It wasn't atypical for there to be passing spirits inside most homes and Kajsa was sort of used to it. "There's-" she began before realizing that it wasn't welcome news to most people. The spectre simply moved on and past a wall, anyway, so she decided to let it go. There were really more pressing things on her mind right about now. Like the little pea-sized thing in her belly that was causing all sorts of trouble for her. Enough trouble that she was inside a stranger's house about to offer him money to pretend he was her baby's father. God, her life sounded like some horrible daytime TV drama. Her baby's father was probably her evil twin sister's husband. Well, she supposed she was the evil twin sister in that case. She let out a giggle.
Oh, god. He probably thinks I'm crazy now. Not that I'm not.
Bordering on hysterical, Kajsa fiddled with a lock that had fallen out of her braid. The house was all right, if not in need of a little cleaning. She looked at the couch. Should she sit? He hadn't offered. Should she stay standing? It might be better for an escape after he laughed her out of her house. She might have to ask him to sign a non-disclosure first. She still knew how to draft up one of those. Of course...it might not even be an issue if she didn't say anything in the first place. She could just leave. She could still walk out of this. Back into her house. Which was missing her mother. Her mother who could be undergoing who-knows-what kind of torture. And who would need a happy, supportive family around her. Kajsa stayed put.
"I have a proposal for you," she started, turning around to face Ryan. Hey, her voice didn't even shake. "I need someone willing to pretend to be my boyfriend. For my family," she added quickly. She didn't need that kind of boyfriend. "But it comes with a few rules." A lot, actually. "But I can pay you. Very handsomely." And this was where Kajsa held her breath and hoped he didn't just kick her out.
