I've got a bullet with your name on it Who: Tanith (and Eztli) and Alistair… maybe more later >_> When: Afternoon Where: Mainly Ad Gustum
It was very strange to be in Treat’s house alone. Tanith didn’t like it, to be honest, but for some reason she felt compelled to go back there anyway. She took care of his cats. The task was more than a little overwhelming and Eztli had to tell her what to do every step of the way, but she did it anyway. It was something to keep her busy, and she needed that right now. She hadn’t gone back to the school since last night. There was nothing she could do there. Despite what that faerie fucker had told her, she had tried everything she could think of before accepting the fact that there wasn’t a goddamned thing she could do. She left. She slept fitfully. She took care of the cats. At some point she must have sat down in the kitchen, but Tanith couldn’t remember doing it. She was staring into space, finally letting her mind wander and do what it would. She sat there for a long time, doing nothing but thinking hard. The sun’s position through the window dragged across the floor as time went on. Finally, Eztli walked into the kitchen and sat across from her.
I’ve been following your thoughts, he told her. Tanith’s eyes darted up to his. She shrugged. And? What was his point. She didn’t feel like speaking. And I think you’re just looking for a way to pretend you don’t care about what happened.
Tanith stared at the cat for a long time. Whether I care or not is irrelevant, she finally thought. Eztli could read her mind, so fuck it. Some things she just couldn’t say aloud anyway. Caring or admitting to caring won’t change the situation a damn bit. This, this I can actually do something about. He would know what she meant.
It’s dangerous, Eztli replied. What you’re thinking. I think you just want to do something a little reckless so you won’t have to think about Treat.
Tanith frowned. No, she thought back. I don’t want to think about Treat. That doesn’t change the fact that this may be the best opportunity I ever have to end it.
Eztli sighed. Are you set on this course of action? Tanith nodded in answer. May I go with you? he asked then. Tanith shook her head. Why not?
Tanith wasn’t sure how to answer that, even if it was only in her head. At the end of the day, there were a lot of reasons why Tanith hadn’t wanted a familiar. The easiest excuse as to why was that they were a liability. Kill the familiar, end the elemental, simple as that. But Eztli was a powerful creature, and Tanith wagered it’d be hard for anyone to take him down. I work best alone, she finally decided on. You’ll be a distraction.
Eztli nodded. I’ll wait outside then, he informed her. I’ll circle the block while you do what you must. And that was all the planning that went into it. Tanith stood up, went to her room, and grabbed her jacket and her keys. She pulled a suitcase out from under the bed, and armed herself for what was to come. Several vials of blood, a handgun with a silencer, and several clips of silver bullets. It didn’t take her long to get to Ad Gustum.
The brothel was quiet. With both Domina and Angeline gone, the atmosphere was relaxed. Tanith never saw a soul as she headed into the dungeons. The place was far from deserted, she knew that. But people were keeping to themselves today. That suited her just fine. She did one quick sweep of the dungeons, making sure there was no free person down there to see, hear, or otherwise interfere, and then she headed for Alistair’s cell.
