There wasn't going to be much he could do here at the school, Carter had been able to tell that within the first couple of minutes of his arrival, but that didn't mean he couldn't continue to scope the place out and try to make sense of it all. Easier said than done, obviously, especially with his all but non-existent understanding of magic, if that was indeed what was causing this. This was a waiting game and little more, the authorities had tried several things in order to try and get through the wall -- or bubble, or whatever it was -- to no avail, so hard-hitters such as Carter were only taking up space, really. There was nothing he could do except watch. Watch and listen.
That wave caught his eye and turned his head so that he could watch Athena approach. It had been a while since their paths had crossed and Carter felt the smile creep onto his face as she neared, forming of its own accord, telling him how glad he was to see a truly friendly face in all this confusion. He'd encountered others he knew since arriving in town -- Aiden, specifically -- but the two men had shared a grim kind of truce more than anything. It was different with Athena, and he was genuinely glad to see her.
"Nothing that hasn't already done the rounds, I'm sure," he said to her, lifting his arms from his sides so that he could cross them over his chest, turning his gaze back on the school and all the activity buzzing around it. "Do you know anyone on the inside?" he asked her then, turning his attention back on the woman to his side, just enough concern in his voice to sound genuine without going overboard.
