starting over again?
Who: Elaine and Natalisa
When: Early Afternoon
Where: Cafe near L'Attique
Natalisa was desperate to make things right between herself and Elaine. She would have been happy to carry on as they had been, getting to know each other again after years of separation, even after the kiss that Elaine surprised her with, but that apparently was not to be. When it came to different ways of explaining herself, she was finally at a loss. The last thing she wanted to do was hurt Elaine’s feelings, but every time she tried to explain her reasons for not encouraging anything more than friendship, it seemed to do nothing but devastate her ward. Every time she saw the were with a smile that wouldn’t quite hold or noticed that she wouldn’t maintain eye contact for very long, her heart broke. Days had gone by since she had seen Elaine and Natalisa couldn’t decide if it was for the better or worse that they have time apart. Her own experience had been filled with nothing but worry. It didn’t matter how many times she had to be reminded that she would know if something was wrong; the last time she had left Elaine to her own devices, the were had ended up at a bar kissing a demon. The thought still turned her insides into knots and she had to force herself to not think about it or risk getting upset.
Earlier in the day she had called Elaine out to meet her at the café where they had first talked the day they re-met one another. Her hope was that she could make a plea for a fresh start; they could forget about everything that had happened and just start over with a clean slate. The more she contemplated on things, the more she realized that she needed things to be okay between them. Having a ward dislike her or feel uncomfortable around her had never bothered her before, but with Elaine, it was more than she could stand. As she took a sip of her tea and watched the door anxiously, Natalisa wished that she had brought Archie along to whisper encouragement into her ear. Finally, the sight of Elaine caught her attention and she stood to wave her over to the table. “I hope I didn’t pull you away from anything important today.”
