the wrong kid got left behind
Who: Domina (brief NPC appearance by her mother) and open!
When: Early morning
Where: it's all happening at SOHS... and surrounding properties
Domina had been dragged out of bed late in the night by a servant and forced into clothing, the situation explained to her as she was hurried down the stairs and out the door. The majority of it didn't really filter through until she was actually there. When she could see the chaos for herself, it had started to feel real. Angeline was trapped in there, and no one understood how. There was an invisible barrier, and people had hurt themselves trying to get through. She didn't really care about that last part.
When she'd initially arrived, she'd hurried to her father's arms, and watched her mom in raven form flying all around the scene, trying to find a weak point with her talons. Last night were birds could still get away with that. Today, the police were threatening to tranq anyone that tried. "That thing might be dangerous," one of them had said. Domina had snorted derisively and walked away. Her father was doing what he could. If anyone could figure out how to get them out of there, it would be Bram Moriarty. In this, and in all things, Domina had absolute confidence in her father.
Then her fucking mother had started in on her. After shifting out of sight and redressing, she had all but dragged Domina away from her father to hiss in her ear. "You're a Moriarty, not some welfare hoodrat. Go home and put something presentable on. The press will be here any minute." Normally, Domina would have ignored her mother entirely, but not just then. Eleanor Moriarty wasn't looking as sure and steady as she usually did. Domina knew her mother's sanity was just hanging in by a thread. So she went quietly. She changed into something absolutely tame by her standards, and went back to the scene. Whenever possible, she stayed by her father's side. She watched the sun rise over the school. When they were made to move back, they went willingly, but still chose places near the front of the barricades. It was when her father went to make arrangements with a few local property owners that her mother zeroed in on her again.
"You look like you dressed for a whore's funeral," she hissed at her daughter. "Your sister would never embarrass me like this. She knows what it means to be a daughter of this family."
It hurt. Domina knew it shouldn't have. She didn't care what her mother thought, she'd hated her mother almost as long as she'd known what the word 'hate' meant. She'd looked it up in the dictionary once, and one of its definitions had been 'a desire to kill.' She'd only been eight or nine at the time, but she had decided immediately it would fit. Their family would be so much better off without that crazy old harpie. It would even get her dad a few more sympathy votes. A hardworking widower and single father was such a better angle than a devoted family man. Domina did not give a fuck what this woman she'd dismissed years ago thought, but it still hurt. Domina frowned up at her mother. She was sitting on the curb, and her mother was staring angrily down at her. My kingdom for a high-speed bus, Domina thought. "Pity for you," she said in a dead sort of tone. "You got stuck with the wrong one."
Domina could tell her mother wanted to say more, but a police officer called her name at just that moment and she stalked away. Domina looked away and stared back at the school. My sister is in there, she thought. But Daddy will get her out.
