goodness gracious, great balls of fire!
WHO | Harper & Josh
WHERE | Bits & Bytes
WHEN | Lunchtime
"Oh screw it," Harper sighed, flumping down on the floor. 'I don't think there's any salvaging it.' Crayola just sort of blinked over her shoulder from his spot on the couch. He wasn't trying to be much of a smart ass; he rarely did after his ward decided to shoot fire around their apartment. Her temper was testy at best and he spent his every waking moment to push her buttons... until her rage actually manifested itself with flaming balls of fury. Which, in this case were not intended for him but for her television set. All morning long Harper had been trying to watch her recordings of Cake Boss, but for some reason the VCR wasn't working (might have been because it wasn't plugged into the right places, but she was never the type to check those things first), so she was hoping to catch reruns on the television only to find that every channel was blaring updates about the madness going on at the high school.
Yeah, she thought was going on there sucked for everyone involved, but seeing as she didn't have any friends or family there, she wasn't really all that torn up about it. She just wanted to relax for a while during her lunch break and watch her absolute favorite show, not catch the same headlines over and over again. It's not like any progress was being made at the high school, so why did the news have to interrupt all of the scheduled programming? Of course, it did throw a hitch in the day when Kahlan called out, something about her sister being one of the people trapped in the school. Harper understood the crisis enough to naturally give Kahlan the day off, but that didn't mean she was ready to sacrifice her television watchings to real world catastrophes. She had been growing more and more agitated with her situation when she finally found what she was looking for... only to realize that she had tuned in during the last ten minutes of the episode. Hoping a marathon was in progress, she stuck it out through the obnoxious commercials. But the show that came on after was the trash television that was Bridezillas and she couldn't take it anymore.
She screamed and had tapped into her element before she realized, hurling a ball of fire straight for the television. About the second it collided with with the glass and metal, Harper cursed herself and ran over to put the flame out, hoping that she could save the set. Except now what was before her was a twisted knot of melted metal and shattered glass and there was no way she could save that. But that wasn't going to stop her. She already had a plan in her head, and so she grabbed her jacket and threw a sheet over the television set and headed out of the door. '... You really don't think he can fix that, do you? Seriously?' It's got to be worth something. 'Besides making him laugh at you? Not much.' Crayola became significantly more brazen knowing Harper was walking out of the bakery door.
She rolled her eyes and sighed heavily as she stepped outside. The air was cool and damp and not at all the sort of weather she liked, but she was desperate and she hurried over to the neighboring shop. As many times as Josh had been over to visit the bakery, she had never really set foot into the computer repair shop. She'd passed by and glanced inside from time to time, but never had she been a customer. Harper walked right into the shop sat the television set on the counter. She was lucky it was an old thing and something that wasn't any larger. When she didn't see Josh right away, she leaned to the side so she was looking towards the back room. "Spaaaaaarky," she called. "Sparky! I had an accident!"
She didn't wait for Josh to come out to the front; instead, she headed towards the back room and poked her head around the door frame. "My t.v. sort of broke. Mind taking a look at it?"
