Ten minutes in town and already Katia was bored. She was tired of the back-to-back traveling. One plane led to another and that led to a bus and that led to a rental car... The world didn't operate with direct routes to anywhere or anything and she found that thought left a bad taste in her mouth. She'd abandoned her rental car somewhere near the outskirts of town and despite the pouring rain and claps of thunder overhead, she decided that walking was definitely better. She couldn't stand that tinny voice of the GPS politely demanding that she 'turn right, and at the end of the road turn left.' She was in Scarlet Oak for one reason and one reason alone: Nikita. How long had it been since she'd seen her childe? Far too long. Of course, seeing her favorite of her children also meant that the two of them could start a little trouble in the quaint little town that Nikita had seemed to settle down in. Katia was sure that the gun business Nikita had her hands in was going well enough; part of her had wished that Nikita had followed in her own footsteps, playing with people and making them disappear without a trace. She ran her tongue over her fangs as she fingered the zipper at the top of her jacket. It's original owner had been sold to a high bidder in Singapore who had a penchant for going through his girls a little too quickly. So the odds were likely that the sweet American had finally settled down in a pit of dirt and bones.
She was a lucky one.
Katia walked through the streets of Scarlet Oak, not really caring about the rain that was soaking her blonde tresses or the fact that hardly anyone was outside in this weather. Anyone peeking out their darkened windows probably stared at the woman in such striking red clothes. That thought made her grin. Yes, be amazed, astounded, and then die in a panic. That's all she ever wanted out of the world. Turning a corner, Katia finally found what it was she was looking for: Cherryblossom Place. Even in the darkening environment and the constant rain, the estate looked nice. Katia was almost impressed. She walked through the community until she found the office building, where she walked inside without stopping to talk to the woman who was busy digging in a filing cabinet. But the woman still saw Katia, who was heading for the door with a neat, shiny little plaque that read 'Nikita Vostrikova, Landlady.'
"Excuse me, miss, but you can't go in there without an appointment. That and I'm afraid we're actually closed for the day due to the power outages. You can come back tomorrow."
Perhaps it was because she was in such a good mood, but Katia actually stopped and looked at the American woman. She tilted her head a little to the side and smiled, her fangs glinting in what little light there was filtering through the windows. Without warning, she launched herself at the woman and firmly wrapped her hand around her small throat. Nightfall wasn't terribly far away, but even with her strength diminished in the daylight, Katia was much stronger than Nikita's assistant. She squeezed slightly until the woman made a squeaking sound. "I am here now to see Nikita. Not to deal with little American girls. You're lucky." Her words were Russian, even though she was quite certain the woman had no idea what she was saying. In fact, Katia was banking on it. She grinned again and tilted Annie's head so that she was looking into the American's eyes. She watched as they widened with fear, nearly bulging out of her head, before she stopped smiling and slammed Annie's head into the filing cabinet door, shutting it with a loud bang. She pressed Annie into the filing cabinet, grabbing her arm and twisting it behind her. Who said she couldn't have a little fun before she saw Nikita? Laughter started to spill out of her when Annie began to squirm and call out for Nikita.
"Thought you said I needed an appointment?"
