and after the storm, i run and run as the rains come.
Who: Catriona.
Where: The forest just outside Scarlet Oak
When: Mid-morning.
The rain didn't bother her, not really. She'd spent more than a few nights locked out of the house for one reason or another, it was nothing new to her, she actually liked being outside and close to nature it was where she felt most at home. Now it was her home, she didn't have anywhere to call home anymore. She'd left her home behind with nowhere to go and nothing to her name. She'd ran away with no destination in mind and while that might have made some people freak out she had done what she always did and relied on her natural instincts to see her safe. Cat had always been more wolf than girl and that had never been truer than right now, she was curled up underneath a tree with her nose tucked under her tail and her ears swivelling back and forth listening to the sounds of the forest. The gentle patter of the rain against the trees was soothing to her in a way no other sound was, even the rolling thunder didn't bother her, she was happy out here but she knew she couldn't stay out here forever.
Cat had ventured into town a few times since she'd arrived in Scarlet Oak but she'd kept returning to the forest. There were plenty of empty homes she could have broken into and she'd even been offered a place to stay by a member of one of the local packs but for the time being she wanted to be in the forest. It was almost as if she was afraid of the town and the people that called it home. From the moment she'd arrived she'd picked up scents from more supernaturals than she'd ever encountered in one place before. It was strange that a town the size of Scarlet Oak should be home to so many supernaturals and anytime she went into town she felt as if her skin was crawling, as if the wolf beneath the surface was just trying to break out. Cat couldn't explain what it was but there was something that made her feel slightly unsettled anytime she walked the streets of the town.
Despite her unease she had already spent more time here than she had anywhere else since she'd fled from her birth pack. Maybe it was the way the forest made her feel that was keeping her here or maybe it was something else entirely. Cat wasn't worrying about that right now though, her ears flicking towards the sounds of something moving through the brush not far from where she was curled up. Her muscles tensed as she used her other senses to figure out if it was potential prey or another predator on the prowl. The rain made it a little harder to pick up the scent of whatever it was moving in the gloom so she lifted her head up and turned to look towards the source of the sound, her eyes focusing on the brush. A sudden flash of lightning made the colours wash out of the world for a moment, a crash of thunder chasing on the heels of the lightning made a rabbit bolt from underneath the bush. The animal was completely unaware of Cat's presence and didn't realise it had made itself a target. Her eyes locked onto the rabbit and she was up and moving towards the rabbit before it had a chance to react. At least she wouldn't go hungry today.
